This is something we do every year and have for as long as we have been on air. We pick winners, we predict scores, and Saturday across the commonwealth, on the Kentucky News Network, our guy, Friday Night Fletch, will go on air and discuss how we fared. The below are some of the key matchups across Kentucky pitting teams from different classifications all over the commonwealth of Kentucky, literally from Ashland to Paducah and all points in between. Here is how we see it.

These teams are starting to get into district play and some of these teams are still building their RPIs which will be important when classification rankings and seedings start crystalizing across the KHSAA. Dubois Academy is the “hot story” around the Derby as this 2A powerhouse is vying for its fifth (5th) win of the season. This team is an opening weekend, one-point loss away (to Holy Cross (Lou.)) from being 6-0 with a win this weekend.

Caldwell County (5-0) at Fort Campbell (2-3)
Caldwell is the hot team in Western Kentucky right now and has a big, upcoming trip to Mayfield, Kentucky looming on the horizon. Caldwell cannot afford to be trapped into taking the Falcon game lightly looking ahead to Mayfield. Mayfield ain’t going nowhere. Play them one game at a time.
Caldwell has some of the best roster talent around the west. Kameron Wilson is a “Mr. Football-caliber” candidate and is coming off a monster, 4-rushing TDs output against Trigg County in the 139-Bowl. Daelyn Landers is a stud at QB at 6’2″, 175-lbs. Bryson “Cowboy” Ford (LB/TE), interior DL/OL Kam “The Ox” Wells are both as good as you will see among ’29s at the 2A level, and Ty “The Jet” Palmer adds a speed element to the equation.

Boyle County has the top TE/DE combo guy in the commonwealth and the top TE nationally in the ’27 class across the country. Seneca Driver was held out of the Highlands game owing to an ejection fro the game prior. The big question here is “Does the big man play?”
Boyle is a different team with Driver in the lineup versus Driver on the sideline in street clothes. Either with or without Driver, Boyle at home is too much for Ballard.

The Matchup Breakdown
While both teams are coming into this game highly respected in KHSAA football, they are trending in completely opposite directions:
- Boyle County Rebels (3-1): The Rebels started the season dominant, cruising past Owensboro Catholic (55-24), Bryan Station (35-0), and Lexington Catholic (35-21). However, they are coming off a tough 41-21 loss to Highlands on September 11. Expect them to play with an angry, focused chip on their shoulder after a bye week of adjustments.
- Ballard Bruins (1-4): The Bruins have struggled immensely to find consistent offense this year, dropping low-scoring games to Lexington Catholic, Male, and Bryan Station before getting blown out by Jackson (42-6). They just secured their first win of the season against Fern Creek last week but are heavily outmatched in terms of depth and explosive playmakers here.

The Highlands Bluebirds (4-1) are overwhelming favorites against the Harrison County Thorobreds (0-5) for their upcoming game on September 25, 2026. For those wondering when the Bluebirds are going to be back, it appears QB Bryce Armstrong has them back! The time is now, but with Covington Catholic next week, is this a trap game?

The Crimsons have established themselves as one of the premier teams in Kentucky Class 6A this season. Their resume includes stellar wins over South Warren (42-21) and a gritty 6-0 shutout of a tough Cooper squad. Manual brings a more disciplined, physical defense into this matchup. They also possess historical dominance, having handled Bullitt East 37-7 in their meeting last season. On3 computer models favor Manual heavily in this matchup with a 98% win probability.
The Case for Bullitt East
The Chargers are playing at home in Mt. Washington and boast an impressive 4-1 record. They have shown they can light up the scoreboard, putting up 55 points against North Bullitt and 33 against Franklin County. However, their lone step up in true competition resulted in a 34-7 loss to Bowling Green early in the year. For Bullitt East to cover or pull off the upset, their offense must find quick, explosive plays before Manual’s front seven can suffocate the pocket.
The Verdict
While Bullitt East’s offense looks flashy on paper, DuPont Manual represents a major step up in class, physicality, and overall depth. Manual’s elite defense will stifle the Chargers’ run game, forcing mistakes that the Crimsons’ offense will easily turn into points. Expect Manual to comfortably pull away in the second half.
