Mike Shannon, the color analyst on Jack Biuck’s broadcasts on St. Louis Cardinals network used to say, “Well Abner (Doubleday), you’ve done it again.” It looks as though Abner Doubleday may have been dabbling in 6A, first district, seedings as the Tigers winning this week, and McCracken beating Henderson a week from now, would create quite a mess. Enjoy this article as we will attempt to make some sense of it all. Well, not really, we’re just enjoying the melee. You enjoy it too. One only gets one life to live.

Sometimes individual performances give rise to promise and expectation for the future even where it came in an unsuccessful bid for a victory. This past weekend the Trigg County Wildcats were narrowly beaten by a Crittenden team who had to have felt fortunate to escape the encounter. The loss aside, and dropping to 1-5 on the year aside, the Wildcats still found elements about which to feel like there its considerable promise for the future under legendary coach, Curtis Higgins. Connor Bellows had another strong night and returned a pivotal kickoff 52-yards to give his team a chance when it needed a chance the most. These kids getting all these valuable live game reps will pay off before too much longer and Bellows coming up, big-time, in pivotal moments will too. It just goes to show, one has to be omnipresently prepared, ready. This week our jacket patch goes to the senior athlete who played his butt off in a pivotal moment, giving his team a shot at victory. He has been expected this year to be prepared, to be ready, and to perform and, thus far, he hasn’t disappointed. Enjoy this look at Connor Bellows who (for a second time) is our Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company All-State Player of the Week and another patch-recipient as we enter district play and the stretch run.

This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. You may not agree and that is okay. We are wrong between 10-15% of the time. It makes for fine reading and generous discussion. Enjoy the article.

Louisivlle’s Ja’Hyde Brown (Christian Academy-Louisville) is coming off quite a game for his Centurions against a 6A opponent in Hardin County, Kentucky (Central Hardin). Brown logged 6 receptions for 158 yards and 4 receiving touchdowns (receptions of 31, 51, 65, and 14 yards). He also returned a punt for a touchdown, totaling 5 touchdowns on the night. That is the type performance which leads a young player to the Atlantic Coast Conference and an NIL check to play for the homesteading Louisville Cardinals. Brown is a “Mr. Football” candidate and his candidacy is hard to argue against, except for the possible exception the team would be about as lethal with or without him, but that isn’t his fault. The Centurion roster is loaded with playmakers at about every position. Enjoy this look at a kid for whom the sky is literally the limit.

Through four games, the Tigers stand at 2-2, coming off consecutive road wins, and playing much better football by any estimation. The defense was particularly stout this past Friday night in the district opener for both schools, Christian County at Daviess County in Owensboro. The Tigers embark on an important stretch, coming home to play one of 6A’s better teams in South Warren before traveling to Lexington, the 25th of September, to play Frederick Douglass on “The Farm.” Obviously, if the young Tigers could split those two games it would be a huge boost to the team’s psyche and prospects heading into the end of the regular season and the playoffs. The defensive unit of the Tigers really played exceptionally this week to earn our Lasater’s Player of the Week Honors. Enjoy the feature.

I was watching a college football game on television last night (September 12, 2026) and Georgia Tech had a monster at TE who couldn’t be stopped. Over and over again the Ramblin’ Wreck kept targeting this 6’9,” 270 pounder over the middle of the defense. It was impressive. I would have run it until someone showed me it could be stopped or even slowed a bit. The kid for Georgia Tech was named Kevin Roche, Jr. and he hailed from Connecticut. Murray High has such a TE and his name is Owen Howell. Howell is a 6’4,” 220-pounder with a 4.7-GPA and a 29 on his ACT. Scores like that and you can gain admission to Georgia Tech or anywhere else you might want to go. Enjoy this look at Howell as he is our Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company weekly featured player.

Not every 5’11,” 180 pound high school WR is the same. Some of them have a vertical of 37-inches, bench press 245, squat (lbs): 425, power cleans (lbs) 235, and are in the graduating class of 2028. Some of them are surnamed “Landis” and get to play high school football at one of Kentucky’s most prestigious programs for a coach bearing the same surname. Parker Landis is having a big year and is coming off a big win over cross town Male High (Lou.). He is our Big Ass Fans Kentucky Comfort Creator of the Week. Congratulations, and enjoy the article!
