Lloyd Memorial is a team which has been overlooked as a potential 3A title contender. It is not our fault, we had them No. 3 on our preseason top-team’s poll coming into the season. Lincoln Tomlinson was the headliner coming into the year. Well, his classmate, Colten Barger (’28) looks as though he may have etched his name on the stud-wall in the locker room so far this year. The Juggernauts are 6-0 and have ripped through both a 5A team (Collins) and a 6A squad (Campbell County). With four regular season games left, this Juggernaut of a team may be headed to 10-0 and quite a few playoff games at home. Enjoy this look at a main reason why.

Drew Hardin is among the better athletes playing football across Kentucky at the high school level. He is 5’11,” 165-pounds, doubles at safety on defense, and contributes to the return/coverage units on special teams. He is a three-phase guy on a 5A roster which travels to Winchester, KY tonight riding a 5-0 record. This one tonight against GRC is a big one. We have been calling Isaiah Messer Cruz “The Cruz Missile” around our offices. Cruz didn’t come into the year expecting to play QB necessarily but there is no denying he is playing it effectively and well. On a night where Haden Wise gained over 200-yards rushing, scored twice, and led the Falcons to a 44-12 district win over Todd County Central, Cruz, with his 59-yard aerial to Levi Kruse, still found a way to help his team reclaim the lead in a ball game which the Falcons badly needed after having dropped the Army Bowl to Fort Knox a few weeks ago. Cruz was among the offensive leaders for the Falcons football team this past Friday night as he played QB and led the team to its third win of the year. Cruz, who also wrestles, employs skills which lend naturally (and specifically) to playing football. Cruz’s multi-faceted, athletic tool belt makes him more, not less, recruitable to colleges around the commonwealth. Enjoy this feature.

Today we break down the 5A classification. Lots of people are going to pick Owensboro (Senior) and with good reason. They won it a year ago and, but for the loss of Evan Hampton, have a ton of talent returning. Of course, losing “Mr. Football” is kind of a big loss. We like Scott County. The Cardinals look to us to have it all. They have a lot of skills coming back, are very strong in the run game, and have one of the better athletes across the board playing in the KHSAA game today. They also have an amazing coaching staff loaded up with Hall of Fame types. Woodford County, Atherton, and Bowling Green will be heard from too and Pulaski and South Laurel better be watched. We get to travel to Munfordville and play the Hart County Raiders this coming weekend. That is a very hard place to have to play and the Raiders (8-2) are a very well coached (Chad Griffin), and red hot team. The Raiders opened the year with a 4-point loss to Logan County (4A, 8-2) in Russellville. That should tell you something about the talent we will be playing in round one. Still, we have some pieces which might well trouble the Raiders; and, where two teams enter a football field, either of them may emerge, on any give night, the victor. We need this game and are hoping our seniors can rise up and deliver it. Let’s get ready to car-pool to Murray, KY and cheer our boys onto victory.
