Aaron David Johnson, or “AD” as he is called around Perry County Central circles has been making some real, off-season strides. He is getting taller, getting thicker, getting stronger exhibiting more arm-strength, and getting much, much faster. This kid has got the home folks around Hazard, Kentucky going plumb crazy. We believe this kid, coming off a solid junior year under center, is poised to have quite the senior season. Together with “little brother” Bryson Johnson (“Mr. B”), these two have the Commodores from Perry County Central trending in an upward trajectory. Jonny Lind from Covington Catholic has all the characteristics and measurements any college coach would want in a lineman coming out of high school. Lind who lists DE as his primary position is 6’3,” 264-pounds and was one of the Defensive MVPs of the Best of the Midwest Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana earlier this year. Lind had 30-tackles in 11-games, missing three (3) games owing to thumb surgery in the middle of his HS, sophomore season. This kid can play and plays for one of the premier programs in the commonwealth of Kentucky. Kayson Holland from Marshall County is our Protein-packed Performer of the Week. This kid was electric in only eight games of run over the ’24 season. Holland had 36-tackles, broke up seven (7) passes, scored a rushing TD, and only had a pair of passes completed over him all season. Pour in his 3.2 GPA and 24 registered ACT score and you have a very recruitable athlete who also clips off 40-yards in 4.5-seconds. Philpot is 6’4,” 300-pounds, can bench press 335, squat 485, and deadlift 525. Philpot pops off 40-yard dashes in 5.5-seconds and blows through a “flying 10″ in 1.68. Philpot has 11” hands, a 4.2 GPA, and a registered 26 on his ACT. Dalton Maynard plays for one of the better programs in 5A in Kentucky. That is how a program attracts an over 250-game winner and a former TN COY recipient to its head coaching position. Ivan McGlone brought the Wing-T offense and stout defense to Russell High in 1976 and translated into 316-wins against 151-losses in 38 years with two KHSAA titles spaced 27-years apart. McGlone would win 344-games total, between his native West Virginia and our beloved Kentucky. A Dawahares KHSAA HOF inductee, McGlone his now wearing a different set of Wings than the wings which define the Wing-T offense. McGlone left behind a legacy of character, success, humor, guidance, and fidelity to his ideals, his family, his team, and his school. Enjoy this look back on an extraordinary life and career.

He had 32-tackles, broke up 15-passing attempts, had a pair of tackles for loss, and didn’t allow a single TD in 178 pass coverage snaps. That is quite remarkable on a team which finished 2-9 and toward the bottom of the Kentucky RPI for 5A programs. Sometimes it is the guys who perform in spite of the performances around them who really astonish us. This guy here is a player colleges in the area should really study.
