We are inching closer to the end of our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. Jackson Wyatt is simply among the best multi-phase football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game today at the 4A level and in the ’29 graduating class. Wyatt came to the Calloway County High roster under new leadership and Coby Lewis has gone about developing some of the commonwealth’s most talented players. Wyatt has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him and Wyatt is only going to improve over his sophomore season, particularly on offense where he should get many more opportunities. Wyatt is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.

One of the Tigers tougher players showed up at practice donning a pair of leather work gloves. When Coach Landis asked him why he said, “It was all I had, Coach; besides that, we have work to do.” Don’t be surprised if you see Brian Landis down at Tractor Supply buying all they have in stock. Sometimes it feels, in the KHSAA, we see the same teams prospering year after year. Well, there is a reason for that…several reasons actually. One reason is not all programs in our commonwealth attribute the same level of importance to football as others. Another reason is some programs are better administered and coached than others. Some programs have superior access to talent as they have larger enrollments or more talent laden areas from which to pool football playing talent. For whatever reason, Versailles, Kentucky appears to mine a rich vein of football playing talent annually and Coach Dennis Johnson and staff appear particularly adept at reaping the benefit from this abundant and wealth-laden resource. Murray High had a tremendous signal caller in 2025 who has moved on to the Murray State Racers and will now play on Saturdays. Still, Melvin Cunningham has built an enviable program while at Murray High and his Tigers figure to be in the title chase again in 2026. Lots of big-bodies on that Tiger roster. Lots of athletes on that Tiger roster. There is even a transfer from Dresden, TN who comes to town well thought of, successful, and much ballyhooed for his prior on-field successes. HIs name should be familiar to you. It is Bruce Willis, the same as the Hollywood “leading man,” Bruce Willis. This guy is a load, plays QB, lists MLB as his defensive position (which should tell the reader something of his demeanor and disposition), and is equally dangerous breaking down defenses with his arm or his legs.
