Sometimes individual performances give rise to promise and expectation for the future even where it came in an unsuccessful bid for a victory. This past weekend the Trigg County Wildcats were narrowly beaten by a Crittenden team who had to have felt fortunate to escape the encounter. The loss aside, and dropping to 1-5 on the year aside, the Wildcats still found elements about which to feel like there its considerable promise for the future under legendary coach, Curtis Higgins. Connor Bellows had another strong night and returned a pivotal kickoff 52-yards to give his team a chance when it needed a chance the most. These kids getting all these valuable live game reps will pay off before too much longer and Bellows coming up, big-time, in pivotal moments will too. It just goes to show, one has to be omnipresently prepared, ready. This week our jacket patch goes to the senior athlete who played his butt off in a pivotal moment, giving his team a shot at victory. He has been expected this year to be prepared, to be ready, and to perform and, thus far, he hasn’t disappointed. Lloyd Memorial is a team which has been overlooked as a potential 3A title contender. It is not our fault, we had them No. 3 on our preseason top-team’s poll coming into the season. Lincoln Tomlinson was the headliner coming into the year. Well, his classmate, Colten Barger (’28) looks as though he may have etched his name on the stud-wall in the locker room so far this year. The Juggernauts are 6-0 and have ripped through both a 5A team (Collins) and a 6A squad (Campbell County). With four regular season games left, this Juggernaut of a team may be headed to 10-0 and quite a few playoff games at home. Enjoy this look at a main reason why.

Drew Hardin is among the better athletes playing football across Kentucky at the high school level. He is 5’11,” 165-pounds, doubles at safety on defense, and contributes to the return/coverage units on special teams. He is a three-phase guy on a 5A roster which travels to Winchester, KY tonight riding a 5-0 record. This one tonight against GRC is a big one. This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. This past weekend the Trigg County Wildcats were hammered by a Caldwell team which has looked good all season in the 139-Bowl. That loss aside, and dropping to 1-4 on the year aside, the Wildcats still found elements about which to feel like there its considerable promise for the future under legendary coach, Curtis Higgins. MarQayvion Green had a strong night rushing the football and Caden Scott, who has come off injury, showed resilience under heavy pressure, shrugging off sack attempts to keep plays moving in the second half. These young kids getting all these valuable live game reps will pay off before too much longer. It just goes to show, one has to be omnipresently prepared, ready. This week our jacket patch goes to the young freshman who played like anything but a freshman (MarQayvion Green). He has been expected this year to be prepared, to be ready, and to perform and, thus far, he hasn’t disappointed. Louisivlle’s Ja’Hyde Brown (Christian Academy-Louisville) is coming off quite a game for his Centurions against a 6A opponent in Hardin County, Kentucky (Central Hardin). Brown logged 6 receptions for 158 yards and 4 receiving touchdowns (receptions of 31, 51, 65, and 14 yards). He also returned a punt for a touchdown, totaling 5 touchdowns on the night. That is the type performance which leads a young player to the Atlantic Coast Conference and an NIL check to play for the homesteading Louisville Cardinals. Brown is a “Mr. Football” candidate and his candidacy is hard to argue against, except for the possible exception the team would be about as lethal with or without him, but that isn’t his fault. The Centurion roster is loaded with playmakers at about every position. Enjoy this look at a kid for whom the sky is literally the limit.
