Lloyd Memorial is a team which has been overlooked as a potential 3A title contender. It is not our fault, we had them No. 3 on our preseason top-team’s poll coming into the season. Lincoln Tomlinson was the headliner coming into the year. Well, his classmate, Colten Barger (’28) looks as though he may have etched his name on the stud-wall in the locker room so far this year. The Juggernauts are 6-0 and have ripped through both a 5A team (Collins) and a 6A squad (Campbell County). With four regular season games left, this Juggernaut of a team may be headed to 10-0 and quite a few playoff games at home. Enjoy this look at a main reason why.

Louisivlle’s Ja’Hyde Brown (Christian Academy-Louisville) is coming off quite a game for his Centurions against a 6A opponent in Hardin County, Kentucky (Central Hardin). Brown logged 6 receptions for 158 yards and 4 receiving touchdowns (receptions of 31, 51, 65, and 14 yards). He also returned a punt for a touchdown, totaling 5 touchdowns on the night. That is the type performance which leads a young player to the Atlantic Coast Conference and an NIL check to play for the homesteading Louisville Cardinals. Brown is a “Mr. Football” candidate and his candidacy is hard to argue against, except for the possible exception the team would be about as lethal with or without him, but that isn’t his fault. The Centurion roster is loaded with playmakers at about every position. Enjoy this look at a kid for whom the sky is literally the limit.

Through four games, the Tigers stand at 2-2, coming off consecutive road wins, and playing much better football by any estimation. The defense was particularly stout this past Friday night in the district opener for both schools, Christian County at Daviess County in Owensboro. The Tigers embark on an important stretch, coming home to play one of 6A’s better teams in South Warren before traveling to Lexington, the 25th of September, to play Frederick Douglass on “The Farm.” Obviously, if the young Tigers could split those two games it would be a huge boost to the team’s psyche and prospects heading into the end of the regular season and the playoffs. The defensive unit of the Tigers really played exceptionally this week to earn our Lasater’s Player of the Week Honors. Enjoy the feature.

I was watching a college football game on television last night (September 12, 2026) and Georgia Tech had a monster at TE who couldn’t be stopped. Over and over again the Ramblin’ Wreck kept targeting this 6’9,” 270 pounder over the middle of the defense. It was impressive. I would have run it until someone showed me it could be stopped or even slowed a bit. The kid for Georgia Tech was named Kevin Roche, Jr. and he hailed from Connecticut. Murray High has such a TE and his name is Owen Howell. Howell is a 6’4,” 220-pounder with a 4.7-GPA and a 29 on his ACT. If you don’t know they play a little football in Bardstown, KY you have never read my book, “Kentucky’s All-Time HS FB Coaches and a Few More I Liked” nor have you heard of Garnis Martin. The Point is…they have been fielding quality football teams around Bardstown since they had a school named My Old Kentucky Home High. Bardstown is staring to look very formidable again this season as they have gotten off to a 3-0 start. The Tigers are being led by a combo RB,QB named Elijah Young and the 5’10, 190-pound sophomore is posting some all-time marks particularly passing the ball. We generally go back and republish some articles during the Dead Period. This is the last day of Dead Period and it is full throttle to the opener from here until opening weekend. We are excited about what has been a thrilling offseason. We have accomplished quite a lot this offseason not the least of which has been our publishing the most decorated and distributed book on the topic of Kentucky High School football in Kentucky history. We are very gratified about the book, “Kentucky’s All-Time, High School Football Coaches & A Few More I Liked,” as it has spent a considerable amount of time on the “Amazon” International “Best Sellers’s List” in the categories of “Football,” “Football Coaching,” and “Football Biographies.” Enjoy this flashback to one of our favorite former players.
