Haden Wise brings something to the table programs desperately need, particularly programs competing at the 2A classification. Haden Wise has a very versatile skill set with a variety of talents which lend itself well to playing multiple sports. Wise was among the offensive leaders for the Falcons football team this past Friday night as he played QB out of necessity for his team in its first win of the season. Wise, who also plays baseball (3rd base and catcher) employs skills which lend naturally (and specifically) to playing football. What are the chances the Beechwood Tigers are going to bring back an all-time football coach and then lose his opening game back on the home sideline? As the British would say, “Not bloody likely!” Beechwood opened up last night in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky against a Cincinnati, Ohio team in Indian Hill (Braves) who were coming off a 13-1 season in ’25 with plenty of talent returning. Indian Hill was a slight favorite entering the game. We took Beechwood at home because of Rash, because of Wake commit Emmett Queen at QB, because of Tyler Fryman (WR/ATH, UK commit), and because of Nathan Pabst (uncommitted) at WR/ATH. Mostly, we took Beechwood because we believe in the quality of KHSAA football and its depth and its quality of play and quality of competition. Assessing bigs is a tough, tall task. Assessing rising 8th grade left tackles who are 6’7,” 320-pounds can be equally challenging. Landon Asher comes out of a middle school program which traditionally wins KYMSFA titles and produces top-flight talent. Asher would fit that bill pretty dad-burn well. Asher is a behemoth, gargantuan lineman who plays at a high pad level now but who we believe will develop into a highly recruited young man before his high school career is concluded. Asher is a ’31 guy who figures to challenge for varsity reps early in his career. Remember from where you heard all of this first.

There are usually plenty of skill guys around a 6A program. That is the benefit of having such large enrollments in a sparsely populated state or commonwealth like Kentucky. The 6A programs which thrive are the programs which can produce and develop big men like Alex Schuster. When you have an All-State QB like Zane Johnson, the last thing a program needs is to permit easy access to him right up the A-Gap. So Trinity, the standard for 6A football in the commonwealth, protects its investment with a 300-pound interior guy with a 495-pound back squat and a 750-pound pull. Great idea! The season is literally a week or so from commencement. It is going to be an exciting season like it generally is. There are tons of questions abound as the beginning to 2026 looms. One of those is how profound of a performance may we expect from one of Western Kentucky’s brightest and more versatile stars? Ryder Sandidge has a different gear. If you have ever seen him play, you know what we are describing. Just when you think you have pulled even with Ryder, and are about to overtake him, he hits “that gear” and you are left grasping for a ghost, trying to corral that which is no longer there. We have seen him hit that separation speed in many games, in many “Sevens” throws. Now it is time to access it during his “Swan Song” of a senior season. I once heard having an accomplished place kicker in the fold likened to finding a $20.00 bill in your dry cleaning. We have written about this player previously but her ability is so pronounced and her importance so vast, entering the ’26 season she is worth another feature. Back to our “finding $20 in one’s dry cleaning scenario;” one may not know one even needs $20.00; but, it comes in handy when one is both hungry and thirsty and one finds what one needs just sitting in one’s pocket. Jayleigh Campbell is not just an accomplished placekicker who converted just over 81% of her PATs (9 for 11) but she is a rising senior who should compete for the job at the newly consolidated high school. It must be something to realize your kicking game is so competently handled and looks to remain so for the foreseeable future.
