This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. Bruce Willis, a dual-threat, 2027 QB from West Tennessee who moved (luckily) into Murray High’s district this offseason, led his new team to an impressive, 58-50, double-overtime victory over Class 5A, first District contender Owensboro Apollo. Willis looks in firm control of Melvin Cunningham’s offense and able to deliver the type offensive production necessary for the Tigers to make another run at the Class 3A, KHSAA football title this year. Willis doesn’t throw it quite as well as last year’s QB (Wyatt Robbins) but he runs it better and the result in a dynamic, versatile offense that will be hard for 3A, western KY defenses to manage. King Williams is an exceptional athlete with plenty of skills to make a sizable contribution on the Murray High football roster. Melvin Cunningham has built an enviable program while at Murray High and his Tigers figure to be in the title chase again in 2026. Lots of big-bodies on that Tiger roster. Lots of athletes on that Tiger roster. Plenty of “Williamses” on that roster. King’s name should be familiar to you. He has toured around the western end of Kentucky before landing at one of the premier destinations for football in the KHSAA. This guy is a load, can play some QB, lists DE among his defensive positions (which should tell the reader something of his demeanor and disposition), and is equally dangerous as a big-bodied skill as he is along a line of scrimmage using his speed and quicks to his physical advantage. Any other high school player looking to physically challenge King Williams, or any Williams, better bring along his “Big Boy Britches.” Enjoy this look at this week’s Bank of Cadiz Featured Player.

Murray High had a tremendous signal caller in 2025 who has moved on to the Murray State Racers and will now play on Saturdays. Still, Melvin Cunningham has built an enviable program while at Murray High and his Tigers figure to be in the title chase again in 2026. Lots of big-bodies on that Tiger roster. Lots of athletes on that Tiger roster. There is even a transfer from Dresden, TN who comes to town well thought of, successful, and much ballyhooed for his prior on-field successes. HIs name should be familiar to you. It is Bruce Willis, the same as the Hollywood “leading man,” Bruce Willis. This guy is a load, plays QB, lists MLB as his defensive position (which should tell the reader something of his demeanor and disposition), and is equally dangerous breaking down defenses with his arm or his legs. The season is right around the corner and we are doing what we typically do every year. We are going through the classifications, 1A-6A, and breaking down how we see the coming year progressing. We study these type things, have analyzed coaching staffs, personnel changes, and other statistical data to arrive at an opinion which is far from a guess. We continue on with our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. Aiden Baxter is simply among the better freshman defenders and football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game around the western part of Kentucky at his level of play. Baxter came on our radar with his play last season in his freshman year gaining Friday Night PT on a roster good enough to post a 14-1 and make the 2A title game. Since then, Baxter has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Baxter is only going to improve over his sophomore season, particularly with more opportunities and in multiple phases of the Tiger-attack. Baxter is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.

Kenyon Cunningham is simply among the best multi-phase football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game today at any level and a tremendous prospect in more than just football (basketball). Cunningham came to the Murray High roster when his dad got the job and has become among the commonwealth’s most talented players. Cunningham has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Cunningham is only going to improve over his sophomore season, particularly on offense where he should get many more opportunities. Cunningham is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.

Gage came up from middle school among the commonwealth’s most talented players and has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Kenyon Cunningham is a kid with a ton athletic ability and potential who was put in a very tough spot for any freshman both in the semi-state and then in the championship game. He will be called on to be “The Man” going forward as senior Wyatt Robbins has exhausted his eligibility and is headed to play football for the Murray State Racers. Cunningham is a ranked basketball prospect in the commonwealth among ’29s and is already enjoying success as a varsity basketball player on a 12-2 ball club. Cunningham is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him. Enjoy the feature.

The Storm will close with Murray High (7-0), and then Crittenden County (4-3). It would be nice to slip on Murray and catch them looking ahead to 6-2 Caldwell, but hard to count on that. Regardless, you have to take teams one at a time. Murray High team presents an opportunity to play an opponent who may out-talent us a bit but who can have a bad night as easily as the next guy. We need this game and are hoping our seniors can rise up and deliver it. Let’s get ready to car-pool to Murray, KY and cheer our boys onto victory. First read this…it will get you prepared for the road ahead.
