’28 big-bodied, versatile OL is among Kentucky’s very best

Offensive linemen are difficult to evaluate. Our guy, Friday Night Fletch, does it as well as anyone around the commonwealth but he formerly coached that position so you would expect his eye to be sufficiently trained. Being a top flight OL, a four-star nationally regarded prospect like Murray High’s Ryan Walls requires a skill set apart from being 6’5,” 330-pounds (which Walls is). Effective OL have to have the feet of a dancer, powerful and explosive, quick-twitch movement and punch, good hand placement, powerful six-inch steps with cleats in the ground, balance, leverage, and the ability to sink and drive. Ryan Walls has all of the above and that is why he is this week’s Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company’s All-State Player of the Week.

The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company, based in Cadiz, Kentucky, was founded August 7, 1970. The bank obtained trust powers in 1978.

Murray, KY

It is a locally owned, independent bank which has expanded, through the years, to locations in Hopkinsville and Murray in addition to Cadiz. The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company has focused on community finance and dealing face-to-face with both families and small-business owners while fulfilling customer needs and the dreams of area families and businesses regardless of size or construct.

We, like our area schools, strive for high performance and finding ways to prosper in an ever-changing economic environment. The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company remains committed to superior performance goals coupled with an exceptional quality of customer service.

’28 OL, Ryan Walls was among the young, high school athletes who also rendered a superior performance while achieving exceptional quality so far this season in a first half which would s the Tigers post a 6-1 record thus far and post a No. 9 rating in the RPI of the 3A classification. Walls has drawn significant attention from major Division I programs.

Walls holds a growing list of official offers and major interest from powerhouse programs like Kentucky, Louisville, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Penn. State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Murray State, Marshall, EKU, and UT-Martin. Not a lot of 3A teams have the talent nor tradition of Murray High nor do they generate nor develop this caliber of recruit in their programs.

Well, that is the reason Wall’s getting this season’s eighth jacket patch and is our featured player of the week. If history should repeat itself, and should his performance continue on at this clip as many would anticipate, Walls will find himself on our Big Ass Fans, Small School, All-State Football Team at year’s end.

Murray, KY: Melvin Cunningham has done a tremendous job upon accepting the reigns to the Murray High Tiger football program. The Tigers played for the ’25, Class 3A title at Kroger Field and are looking to get back there and see if they can’t come away with a title.

Walls

The Tigers are 6-1 this season with its only loss being to a 5-2 McCracken County club which is the class of 6A’s first district and ranked 4th in the present KHSAA’s RPI standings, commonwealth-wide.

McCracken beat Murray 48-42 on September 25th. McCracken is just a few points away from being a one-loss team as they lost by a single point to Mayfield.

Developing talent upfront is always paramount to building a winning program, a championship caliber football team. Murray has been building such talent.

Ryan Walls has been a cornerstone of the line, starting every varsity game over his freshman and sophomore seasons to lead Murray High. Behind his dominant run-blocking at left tackle, Murray’s offense has operated at a massive advantage, clearing paths for top rushers like Bruce Willis who is averaging 187.0 rushing yards per game this season rushing from his QB-post.

Ryan Walls has proven himself to possess a rare blend of explosive power and footwork. Walls captured the 2026 KHSAA Class A State Shot Put Championship, a field event well known for measuring and helping players develop quick-twitch, explosive movement.

Walls is physically massive. Walls has measured anywhere from 6’3.5″ to 6’5,” and weighs in between 325-330-pounds consistently. Wall is being pursued by Kentucky, Louisville, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Penn. State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Murray State, Marshall, EKU, and UT-Martin with many of them having already offered the 4-star, nationally regarded prospect.

In addition to being a top-10 ranked interior OL nationally, Walls is a ranked prospect in Kentucky too. Most publications have him ranked second in Kentucky’s ’28 class behind only Kellan Hall at CAL.

Athletes like Walls are why the Tigers have very little quarter to show any opponent.

Ryan Walls plays a large role in the year being enjoyed by Bruce Willis, the talented ’27 transfer QB from Dresden, as well as a plethora of other Tiger stars. We could give this award to a Tiger skill guy every week and Walls is the silent reason behind much of the offensive success. Ask Melvin Cunningham…he’ll tell you.

The Tigers served notice in ’25 that it was a 3A program with which to reckon. Murray High will have a target on its back this year and it has embraced the role. Continuing to develop talent like Walls, like Howell, like Willis will be hugely important if the Tigers are to continue to climb the 3A ladder to its ultimate goal, a KHSAA championship.

Can Coach Cunningham continue the development, the same type run of successes, he has enjoyed with this program to date? If Coach Cunningham is to do that, he will need sustained brilliant flashes similar to what we saw from his big-bodied, junior interior OL, Ryan Walls, which has been instrumental in the team’s 6-1 run through its first seven games.

Look out, Union County; you’re next!

We know this, the Tigers will be excellently coached and excellently prepared. We like this program’s track record. We love this program’s trajectory.

This season will go along way in answering questions. Regardless, seeing the answers revealed should prove entirely interesting.

Let’s just hope Ryan Walls continues to demonstrate the skills and ability he has shown, thus far, in the opening of the ’26 football season. That would keep this program spiraling right along toward a likely 9-1 regular season entering the playoffs.
