This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. You may not agree and that is okay. We are wrong between 5-15% of the time. It makes for fine reading and generous discussion. Enjoy the article.

Mike Shannon, the color analyst on Jack Biuck’s broadcasts on St. Louis Cardinals network used to say, “Well Abner (Doubleday), you’ve done it again.” It looks as though Abner Doubleday may have been dabbling in 6A, first district, seedings as the Tigers winning this week, and McCracken beating Henderson a week from now, would create quite a mess. Enjoy this article as we will attempt to make some sense of it all. Well, not really, we’re just enjoying the melee. You enjoy it too. One only gets one life to live.

The standout star for Murray High School (KY) is Ryan Walls, a highly touted four-star offensive lineman. Walls is widely ranked as the #2 overall player in the state of Kentucky and a top-10 interior offensive line prospect nationally for his class. Walls has been a cornerstone of the line, starting every varsity game over his freshman and sophomore seasons to lead Murray High. Walls was also th State Shot Put Champion a year ago as only a sophomore. Walls’ dominant run-blocking at left tackle permits Murray’s offense to operate at a massive advantage, clearing paths for top rushers like Bruce Willis (’27 QB) who is averaging 187.0 rushing yards per game this season. Enjoy the feature.

McLean County may be a team of whom you haven’t heard and Zach Wagner may be a coach with whom you are unfamiliar. However, what that tells me is you haven’t followed the KHSAA and its marquee sport (Football) very closely over the previous decade or so. Wagner is one of the area’s better head football coaches and the clip at which he has been fielding consistent winners in Calhoun, Kentucky is a testament to his ability to coach a football team. McLean runs a system the kids fit well and they consistently challenge for district and even regional supremacy in the area where they play and compete. McLean won another pivotal battle Thursday night and, with it, earned the ability to open the playoffs at home this year. Enjoy the article.

What a tremendous win over DuBois this past week and the margin was quite unexpected as the Lions were certainly a hot team across KY. This week we thought we would feature a ’28 kid in Paxton Gray who is a perfect example of a versatile skill set athletically employed in a variety of varsity sports. We are proud to have eCampus.com as one of our group of sponsors. Sometimes we like to do things a bit differently. The Tigers are coming off an off week and come home to play a critical, first district matchup against the Henderson County Colonels. The district title is still out there for the taking to the “winner” of this Friday Night’s game. We will scout the matchup and attempt to predict a score and a winner. Big game, and the Tiger coaching staff couldn’t be anymore aware.
