’27 ‘Athlete’ has found a home on the field and in the classroom
It has taken a second for King Williams, Jr. (’27) to find the right fit for his considerable athletic talent in high school. Coming into his senior season, it would appear he has found a home both on and off the field. The defensive end and outside linebacker at Murray High School lists at 6’2,” 215-pounds with the speed and agility to have before aligned at QB for a significant portion of his high school career. While King Williams, Jr. is an A-plus athlete who thrives in a multitude of sports, he is also an A-plus student in the classroom and, reportedly, an A-plus citizen in the high school hallways. Williams is a credit to good rearing and fine parenting and should have a wonderful senior year competing with a team poised to make another run at 3A supremacy.

’27 DE/OLB King Williams, Jr. was among the young, high school athletes who also rendered a superior performance while achieving exceptional quality in prior seasons. In Williams’ case, his is a versatile skill set which lends itself to excellent play defensively while promising the ability to contribute on offense and on special teams for Murray High this coming Fall.
What will this star pull off in the coming season? We’re excited to see.
Well, that is the reason Williams is our featured player of the week. If history should repeat itself, and should he perform anywhere close to as well as he is capable, whatever it turns out to be should be mighty special.

Murray, KY: Melvin Cunningham has done a tremendous job moving from West Virginia to Murray, KY to accept the reigns of the Murray High Tiger football program. Among the prowesses which promise to assist the Tiger program’s ascension up the ranks of Kentucky 3A, is the athletic bounty of the Williams clan. One Williams which should be a reservoir of three-phase utility is a varied, big-bodied skills set otherwise known as “King Williams, Jr.,” class of 2027.
King Williams, Jr. has played at a variety of different programs and has started at QB before relocating at Murray High. This should tell you something of the type athlete we are describing here.
Williams is a 6’2,” 215-pounder who is a prototype at linebacker but also big enough to put his hand in the dirt and bend off the defensive end. Williams has been a contributor on special teams and has the skills to play on offense at either QB or TE.
The Tigers served notice in ’25 that it was a powerhouse 3A program with which to reckon. Murray High will have a target on its back going forward. Continuing to develop athletes like a King Williams, Jr. is a huge add to this or any other roster or lineup.
Can Coach Cunningham continue the development and enjoy the run of successes he has enjoyed with this program to date? If he is to do that, Coach Cunningham will need sustained brilliant flashes similar to what we have before seen from King Williams, Jr. in the past, both on and off the field of play and in and out of the classroom and hallways.
King Williams is a quality person, quality kid. We can neither stress nor highlight this enough!
We know this, the Tigers will be excellently coached and excellently prepared We like this program’s track record. We love this program’s trajectory.
We have seen excellent work from this program in recent scrimmages. Murray participated in Mustang Madness with both McCracken County (6A) and particularly against powerhouse, Paducah Tilghman (4A).
Let’s just hope King Williams, Jr. continues to demonstrate the skills and ability he has showcased in prior seasons. That would really get this program off on the right foot in 2026!
