This is something we do every year and have for as long as we have been on air. We pick winners, we predict scores, and Saturday across the commonwealth, on the Kentucky News Network, our guy, Friday Night Fletch, will go on air and discuss how we fared. The below are some of the key matchups across Kentucky pitting teams from different classifications all over the commonwealth of Kentucky, literally from Ashland to Paducah and all points in between. Here is how we see it.

Many of these teams are taking on opponents out of classification which will be important when RPI’s start being calculated and classification rankings and seeding start crystalizing across the KHSAA. We will start with Kentucky Class 1A.

Johnson Central (4A, 1-2) at Pikeville (1A, 2-1)

Preston Hall is a sophomore running back who earned Player of the Game honors early in the 2026 season after rushing for 210 yards and four touchdowns against Montgomery County (5A).
Franklin County (4A, 1-2) at Lexington Christian Academy (2A, 1-2)
The Lexington Christian Academy Eagles are heavily favored by roughly 16 points over the Franklin County Flyers. The Flyers and Eagles have both played outstanding competition but the star power of the Eagles should led them to victory.

If Murray replicates the form they showed against Calloway, Apollo, and Graves, the Tigers should cover and cruise to a 4–0 start. This is one of those Murray will win this game by whatever margin it chooses.
Nelson County (4A, 3-0) plays Bardstown at Garnis Martin Field in Bardstown (3A, 3-0)
Bardstown High School is favored by roughly 7 to 10 points over Nelson County High School in their upcoming cross-town matchup. Both local rivals enter the contest with undefeated 3-0 records, setting up one of the more anticipated early-season clashes in the Bardstown area.

Interesting subplot: Former Bardstown starting quarterback, Carson Riley, transferred to Nelson County High School in the offseason. This transfer opened the way for Elijah Young to crack the Bardstown lineup at QB, a role in which the young sophomore has flourished.

Both programs are two of the commonwealth’s more prestigious and successful programs featuring some of the Bluegrass’s premier recruits. Highlands came within a point of upsetting Boyle on the road last year (2025). Can the Bluebirds pull the upset at home?

Manual has played a tough, early season schedule while Atherton critics site Atherton’s filling up on early season cupcakes as a criticism. Won’t be able to make such a claim after this weekend.
