We pick games in all six (6) classes This is something we do every year and have for as long as we have been on air. We pick winners, we predict scores, and Saturday across the commonwealth, on the Kentucky News Network, our guy, Friday Night Fletch, will go on air […]

Pour on more steam…Can Muhlenberg take the next step? #Kentuckys #fletcherwlong #LeadershipLegacy #CoachingExcellence #MentorshipMatters #characterbuilding #SportsLeadership #BuildingChampions #kentuckyfootball #highschoolfootball #DisciplineAndDedication #athletics #successmindset #bookstagram #booklovers #fletcherlongauthor

Muhlenberg at Madisonville North Hopkins was a heck of a Thursday night game in Madisonville, KY. Both teams entered the night at 5-1 and the game was a back and forth affair for over three of the four quarters. The problem arose when a couple breaks went against Muhlenberg in the 4th quarter and the team just sort of let down, sort of surrendered. That is the next step for the Mustangs; finishing games. The Mustangs have got to learn how to finish games where the final margin is more a reflection of the game and the degree to which the game was competitive. The final Thursday night was 48-14. Credit the Maroons for carrying the fight to the Mustangs for the full 48-minutes. The game was a bit more competitive than the final score would indicate. Enjoy the feature.

This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. You may not agree and that is okay. We are wrong between 10-15% of the time. It makes for fine reading and generous discussion. Enjoy the article.

The season is literally a week or so from commencement. It is going to be an exciting season like it generally is. There are tons of questions abound as the beginning to 2026 looms. One of those is how profound of a performance may we expect from one of Western Kentucky’s brightest and more versatile stars? Ryder Sandidge has a different gear. If you have ever seen him play, you know what we are describing. Just when you think you have pulled even with Ryder, and are about to overtake him, he hits “that gear” and you are left grasping for a ghost, trying to corral that which is no longer there. We have seen him hit that separation speed in many games, in many “Sevens” throws. Now it is time to access it during his “Swan Song” of a senior season. Enjoy this look at one of the KHSAA’s better commonwealth wide athletes and versatile pieces of high school football equipment and personnel. Enjoy the feature.

We call these the Seven-Eleven. We have identified seven small school players and 11-large school studs all of whom will move the needle considerably this coming Fall. These are the guys who, if they are ’27s, will be in the “Mr. Football” race, and if they are younger will be serious threats for post season accolades. These teams are the teams who will make deep playoff runs, if not win championships, next season too. Enjoy this look at the stars and players who will be drawing much of the ink as in-season coverage commences. Remember from where you first hear this.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we present you the Big Ass Fans, Large School, All-State Football Team

December 16, 2025 Fletcher Long 13

We will start out this all-state team with an admonition with which we begin every team we have ever published. We will miss on some guys. It is just important to note that your son not making our team doesn’t mean he wasn’t an all-state caliber player. Also, we expressly reserve the right to re-enter the team, even after it is published, and add worthy players who may have been missed or accidentally omitted. That being said, our small and large school All-State football teams, sponsored by Big Ass Fans, are the most expansive and complete teams in the business. This team here, and the coaches’s team published by the “Courier Journal,” are the only two legitimate teams in existence and we believe our team to be much more complete and legitimate than even theirs. Congratulations to the players who made the team and congratulations to the wonderful world of Kentucky high school football for providing us with the endless thrills and discussions we net from our following this, the greatest game on earth.

Friday Night Fletch.
