Tigers defense allowed -2 rushing yards, seven (7) first downs, and 65-total yards in win over Daviess
It is easy to praise an offense on a night where the Tigers registered 48-points, accumulated 470-yards of offense, rushed for 280-yards, and tallied 19-first downs in only 45-plays run from scrimmage. However, it is defense which wins championships and if the Tigers are to polish off a first district crown in its inaugural season it will be the efforts on that side of the ball likely to reign supreme. Friday night, the defense bore its claws. the Tigers allowed just 65-total yards of offense, seven (7) first downs, minus two yards (-2) of rushing output on a night which would see every point scored, scored on a unit other than its defense. The Tigers won 48-5 on a night where the margin felt larger than the 43-points it actually was and the defense deserves recognition for its fine play.

Hopkinsville, KY: The newly minted Christian County Tigers showed it could compete in more than just the offensive phase of a football game. Sure, the offense scored 48-points, accumulated 280-yards rushing, 470-yards of total offense on only 45-plays from scrimmage, and those are fine numbers, outstanding production. That aside, what the defense did Friday night may have been otherworldly. The defense’s performance sets this young club up well for a first district title run as the year continues to proceed toward its ultimate conclusion.
Programs often have to learn how to win. This is especially true where the program is taking its maiden voyage in a season at its brand new high school.
There were a few fine, individual performances turned in by members of the consolidated roster. One of those fine performances was from Paul Abren,’27 ATH, and multi-phase contributor. Abren registered 102-yards on just four (4) touches.
However, all of the offensive numbers aside, it was the defense which really shown itself against a Daviess County team not known for offensive struggles in this particular series. The Tiger defense was stifling Friday night.
The defense limited the Panthers to five points on the night. The defense limited the Panthers to just 65-total yards, 67-yards through the air and a paltry -2 yards rushing from scrimmage. The Panthers were limited to just seven (7) first downs over four quarters of play. Those are fine numbers in deed and one of the news school’s banner defensive performances on the season and why the Christian County defensive unit is our Lasaters Coffee & Tea Player(s) of the Week.
