We have been calling Isaiah Messer Cruz “The Cruz Missile” around our offices. Cruz didn’t come into the year expecting to play QB necessarily but there is no denying he is playing it effectively and well. On a night where Haden Wise gained over 200-yards rushing, scored twice, and led the Falcons to a 44-12 district win over Todd County Central, Cruz, with his 59-yard aerial to Levi Kruse, still found a way to help his team reclaim the lead in a ball game which the Falcons badly needed after having dropped the Army Bowl to Fort Knox a few weeks ago. Cruz was among the offensive leaders for the Falcons football team this past Friday night as he played QB and led the team to its third win of the year. Cruz, who also wrestles, employs skills which lend naturally (and specifically) to playing football. Cruz’s multi-faceted, athletic tool belt makes him more, not less, recruitable to colleges around the commonwealth. Enjoy this feature.

Through four games, the Tigers stand at 2-2, coming off consecutive road wins, and playing much better football by any estimation. The defense was particularly stout this past Friday night in the district opener for both schools, Christian County at Daviess County in Owensboro. The Tigers embark on an important stretch, coming home to play one of 6A’s better teams in South Warren before traveling to Lexington, the 25th of September, to play Frederick Douglass on “The Farm.” Obviously, if the young Tigers could split those two games it would be a huge boost to the team’s psyche and prospects heading into the end of the regular season and the playoffs. The defensive unit of the Tigers really played exceptionally this week to earn our Lasater’s Player of the Week Honors. Enjoy the feature.

For an inaugural journey through Kentuck’s largest classification, the first win didn’t take too terribly long and came on the road playing a ranked Tennessee opponent. Oh well, we do study this topic sufficiently to know a few things about a few things. The win was glorious and somewhat unexpected as the Tigers were at least two TD underdogs by most services which handicap high school football games. Burgess played well with a Pick 6, a pass broken up, 81-kick-off return yards, and six overall tackles. Burgess was a three phase contributor and had a stamp all over his team’s efforts. Burgess also claims our third, in-season (2026), Lasater’s Player of the Week Award. Enjoy the feature.

Haden Wise brings something to the table programs desperately need, particularly programs competing at the 2A classification. Haden Wise has a very versatile skill set with a variety of talents which lend itself well to playing multiple sports. Wise was among the offensive leaders for the Falcons football team this past Friday night as he played QB out of necessity for his team in its first win of the season. Wise, who also plays baseball (3rd base and catcher) employs skills which lend naturally (and specifically) to playing football.
