Mike Shannon, the color analyst on Jack Biuck’s broadcasts on St. Louis Cardinals network used to say, “Well Abner (Doubleday), you’ve done it again.” It looks as though Abner Doubleday may have been dabbling in KHSAA football schedules as the Tigers put an unlikely win over district heavyweight, McCracken County, to the test against a very good, 7-1, Somerset High team as the Tigers brace and prepare for season number two, the KHSAA playoffs. Enjoy this article as we will attempt to make some sense of it all. Well, not really, we’re just enjoying the melee. You enjoy it too. One only gets one life to live.

What a moment for Jayleigh Campbell. She is a ’27 PK who came over from the soccer team to lend a hand (or a foot) to the boys varsity football team. Well, Friday night, during the team’s inaugural Homecoming at the consolidated school, Campbell did something extra special. The senior placekicker became the ultimate hero of the night by kicking the game-winning, 24-yard field goal in overtime. This win was the upset of the night in KHSAA 6A football, it was highly improbable, and it gave the Tigers a chance to get the home gate in round one of the upcoming playoffs. Way to go Campbell.

We pick games in all six (6) classes This is something we do every year and have for as long as we have been on air. We pick winners, we predict scores, and Saturday across the commonwealth, on the Kentucky News Network, our guy, Friday Night Fletch, will go on air […]

The Tiger Defense from the Christian County High program has been particularly stingy of late and is our Lasaters Coffee & Tea Player(s) of the Week for game four #Kentuckys #fletcherwlong #LeadershipLegacy #CoachingExcellence #MentorshipMatters #characterbuilding #SportsLeadership #BuildingChampions #kentuckyfootball #highschoolfootball #DisciplineAndDedication #athletics #successmindset #bookstagram #booklovers @KatherineL58069, @coachclsmit, @ChiefSmoke10, @LasatersCoffee, @bigassfans, @CoachJEzell, @eCampusdotcom, @HenryMi74881410, @HopHighTigers, @FC_FALCONS_FB

Through four games, the Tigers stand at 2-2, coming off consecutive road wins, and playing much better football by any estimation. The defense was particularly stout this past Friday night in the district opener for both schools, Christian County at Daviess County in Owensboro. The Tigers embark on an important stretch, coming home to play one of 6A’s better teams in South Warren before traveling to Lexington, the 25th of September, to play Frederick Douglass on “The Farm.” Obviously, if the young Tigers could split those two games it would be a huge boost to the team’s psyche and prospects heading into the end of the regular season and the playoffs. The defensive unit of the Tigers really played exceptionally this week to earn our Lasater’s Player of the Week Honors. Enjoy the feature.

For an inaugural journey through Kentuck’s largest classification, the first win didn’t take too terribly long and came on the road playing a ranked Tennessee opponent. Oh well, we do study this topic sufficiently to know a few things about a few things. The win was glorious and somewhat unexpected as the Tigers were at least two TD underdogs by most services which handicap high school football games. Burgess played well with a Pick 6, a pass broken up, 81-kick-off return yards, and six overall tackles. Burgess was a three phase contributor and had a stamp all over his team’s efforts. Burgess also claims our third, in-season (2026), Lasater’s Player of the Week Award. Enjoy the feature.

This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. You may not agree and that is okay. We are wrong between 10-15% of the time. It makes for fine reading and generous discussion. Enjoy the article.

We are doing something a little different this week. This week, we are scouting the opening opponent for the Christian County Tigers and forecasting a winner. This was shot around the table at our weekly editorial board meeting and wildly and excitingly discussed. The Longs like the Tigers in the matchup and the remaining table liked the Jaguars. It was 3-2. Can’t get much closer. Anyway, this is who we see it and this is the magazine’s official position. Enjoy the scout and don’t forget to get by one or Lasater’s four county wide locations and remember; at Lasaters you aren’t just served, you’re loved!

We are very pleased to welcome Lasaters Coffee & Tea to our growing family of advertisers. The Kelley family has a very long history in the local football industry and several of the Kelleys have had their numbers retired owing to their familial history of playing excellence. Football has been very good to their family and they look for ways to give back to this very special community. Lasaters is a place one goes to get caffeinated and motivated and couldn’t we all use a bit more of that invigoration in our daily routines. Get by one (1) of our four (4) Christian County, Kentucky locations and enjoy the roasted flavor of a hot cup of warmth and love.
