What can we tell you about rising senior, Zoe’ Marion Smith from Lexington’s Henry Clay High? Perhaps all we need to tell you is he is a 4.3-second, 40-yard dash guy who broad jumps 9’8.” Guys with that type of speed, and with that type him explosion, don’t grow on trees in this or any other state or commonwealth. Coach Hawkins came to Henry Clay to revive the 6A team’s fortunes. His initial team struggled to a 1-10 finish; but, if you think that will doom the program’s prospects well then you just don’t know the same Phillip Hawkins we do. The Blue Devils will be worth watching in 2026. The same can be said about Zoe’ Marion Smith.

This week our feature is about Zoe’ Marion Smith. Smith is a 150-pound DB, WR who is an absolute burner (4.3-second 40-yard dash, 9’8″ broad jump) who only played in six (6) games a year ago but who looks to contribute this coming year in all three phases of the game. We believe Smith would make a dynamite returner on special teams with his speed and spacial quicks.
Smith is the type athlete one has to have to survive playing “Big Boy” football in the commonwealth’s second largest metropolitan area. Smith, and players like him, are the reason Blue Devil fans are feeling optimistic about this coming Fall.
Coach Phillip Hawkins has been there many times. He will build a consistent title contender at Henry Clay given adequate support and opportunity.

Friday Night Fletch, “KPGFootball”
Lexington, KY: I have learned quite a bit over the course of my tenure covering middle and high school football in Kentucky. As we are about to enter another season of our radio show, Friday Night, Kentucky, we are preparing for another exciting season of upsets, exceptional plays, Mr. Football runs, All-State team selections, and everything else the greatest sport on earth entails.
I was in Louisville at a gym sitting around chatting with a guy experienced and sought after in the realm of sports conditioning/training. This particular guy trains most the NFL guys from Kentucky and many of the Division-I candidates as well.
The guy fields a phone call. While I could only hear his side, I could deduce from the answer the caller was inquiring as to the accurate height of a certain prospect under this guy’s supervision and training.
So, the caller asks, How tall is (so and so) really? The trainer answered, I don’t know. How tall is a 4.3-second, forty?
The guy made a valid point. A four-three forty is a four-three forty at any height and at any weight. Speed like that doesn’t grow on trees.
We have a four-three guy for you today. His name is Zoe’ Marion Smith and he plays at Lexington’s Henry Clay High School.
Smith is a four-three guy but much more. The ’27 prospect sports a 3.0 GPA, a 9’8″ broad jump, a 4.3-second pro agility shuttle (5-10-5), and three phase utility.
Last year Smith only got six games run. However, Smith demonstrated he could play WR and DB and has exhibited the speed and quicks to be a dynamite returner on special teams both at this level and the next.
We may not know his height or length;…but, we know he is a 4.3-second, forty. How tall is that?
