There are usually plenty of skill guys around a 6A program. That is the benefit of having such large enrollments in a sparsely populated state or commonwealth like Kentucky. The 6A programs which thrive are the programs which can produce and develop big men like Alex Schuster. When you have an All-State QB like Zane Johnson, the last thing a program needs is to permit easy access to him right up the A-Gap. So Trinity, the standard for 6A football in the commonwealth, protects its investment with a 300-pound interior guy with a 495-pound back squat and a 750-pound pull. Great idea! I once heard having an accomplished place kicker in the fold likened to finding a $20.00 bill in your dry cleaning. We have written about this player previously but her ability is so pronounced and her importance so vast, entering the ’26 season she is worth another feature. Back to our “finding $20 in one’s dry cleaning scenario;” one may not know one even needs $20.00; but, it comes in handy when one is both hungry and thirsty and one finds what one needs just sitting in one’s pocket. Jayleigh Campbell is not just an accomplished placekicker who converted just over 81% of her PATs (9 for 11) but she is a rising senior who should compete for the job at the newly consolidated high school. It must be something to realize your kicking game is so competently handled and looks to remain so for the foreseeable future. Murray High had a tremendous signal caller in 2025 who has moved on to the Murray State Racers and will now play on Saturdays. Still, Melvin Cunningham has built an enviable program while at Murray High and his Tigers figure to be in the title chase again in 2026. Lots of big-bodies on that Tiger roster. Lots of athletes on that Tiger roster. There is even a transfer from Dresden, TN who comes to town well thought of, successful, and much ballyhooed for his prior on-field successes. HIs name should be familiar to you. It is Bruce Willis, the same as the Hollywood “leading man,” Bruce Willis. This guy is a load, plays QB, lists MLB as his defensive position (which should tell the reader something of his demeanor and disposition), and is equally dangerous breaking down defenses with his arm or his legs. Back the old days, coaches generally (particularly in high school) would take the best athlete and make him the QB. After all, let your best athlete handled the ball most of the time, right? Coach McPeek is familiar. He’s been around a while. Last year, the year before hiring McPeek, Eminence High had Deegan Ortega at QB. While there he threw for three TDs, ran for five scores, was the second leading scorer and contributed some tackles along the way. What is in store for ’26? You may see Ortega at QB some more but we believe his next level home will be at WR or DB. He is 6’2,” 180, carries a 3.3-GPA, and is one of the best athletes on any field he enters. Quinton Simon is an under the radar guy who only got a couple nights run under the “Friday Night Lights.” Still, with limited opportunity, Simon has proven himself an exceptional talent among ’29 WR/LB/DB/KR/ATH across the commonwealth of Kentucky. One could even say Simon has been keeping it very cool there in the Fort Thomas, KY football scene. Simon was a star on the JV in both football and basketball and figures to mature into an every down, multi-phase threat for the Bluebirds in 2026. Simon sports a 3.77-GPA and at 5’10,” 175-pounds, he will be a tough matchup for plenty of opponents going forward. Coach Bob Sphire will be mighty happy, going forward into the ’26 season, to have an offensive/defensive/special teams (returner) weapon on the roster like Simon. Let’s keep it comfortable out there, Kentucky, and allow us to help you in that regard at Big Ass Fans!
