KPGFootball handicaps the matchup between Lexington Christian and Danville High (October 16, 2026)

To say the Eagles, from Lexington’s Christian Academy, have started out the ’26 season with a difficult trek is a bit of an understatement. The Eagles stand at 6-2 and have played all comers at any and all different classifications it seems. It two losses are to an undefeated Christian Academy-Louisville (3A) and Pulaski County (5A) both of which are undefeated and ranked at the top of its respective classes. The Eagles will travel to “Tittle Town” to play an 8-0 Danville High squad which felt good to escape W.E.B. DuBois Academy with a one-point win. However, iron sharpens iron as we commonly say and this week the Eagles draw another tough opponent and district heavyweight. This is another one of those great seeding opportunities to get to play games at home come playoff time and the Eagles better come correct because Danville, Kentucky is hardly an easy place to play. Hey, we’re still in the hunt here…act accordingly. Go Eagles…

eCampus.com was built on a simple idea: make textbooks affordable, convenient, and accessible for every student. Their mission has always been supporting student success both on and off the field through affordable access to the course materials they need. eCampus.com is excited to invest in our student-athletes through Kentucky Prep Gridiron (KPGFootball) which was founded to promote and assist young high school football players get promoted to “next level,” college football opportunities.

That is why eCampus.com sponsors the KPGFootball, Big Man on the eCampus series. This week we are doing something a bit different. In stead of giving you a feature, we are going to scout the Lexington Catholic Knights and lay out how we see The Holy War coming off this coming weekend.

We aren’t sure how many of you remember this, but KPGFootball may have been the only Kentucky-wide publication which came out on the record and picked the Eagles to win the title last season (2025). We didn’t panic when the team came out of the gates losing three of its first four. We aren’t panicking now with the team standing at 5-2 through seven of the toughest games any small school in Kentucky has perhaps ever started out playing in any singular season. This schedule has been brutal.

Iron sharpens iron. We knew the tough early season schedule would pay off dividends in 2025 when it got to playoff time. We were right and believe the similar course of action, in 2026, may well net a similar result.

The 2A classification will be a tough league in 2026 and boasts as many top-flight, top-notch teams as any other class in the commonwealth. There are literally 11-teams who could take home the title with four to five at the top capable of beating the other depending on factors as rudimentary as the location of the game.

Lexington, KY: We are coming off a 49-14 road win over the Shawnee Academy in Louisville, KY. It marked our 4th consecutive win after losing to Christian Academy on September 4, 2026. It was a stirring victory and important for our district standing. We have competed out of class for much of the year and now it is important to take care of our fourth (4th) district brethren. This opponent (Danville, 8-0) we are visiting is a tough one.

Danville High School is a team accustomed to winning state titles but the Admirals haven’t won a title since 2017. Steve Stonebreaker has done a masterful job rebuilding this program. Stoney, as he is called, will have his guys ready to play. We better be ready to play too or the bus ride back to Lexington will not be a fun one.

Both teams enter the matchup red hot with the Admirals (8-0) being the talk of the Commonwealth so far this season. Both teams are looking to build momentum as district continues. Both teams are excellently coached, have excellent traditions, facilities, with plenty of institutional support.

Neither team can afford to look past this matchup. A win here, for Danville, may sew up playing at home in the playoffs for quite a few rounds and would make quite the statement across Kentucky that the Admirals have to be taken seriously in 2A regarding title-aspirations. A win here by Lexington Christin would garner for the Eagles the respect the program has certainly earned and reinforces the fact the team is reaching playoff form and peaking when it needs to peak.

We are going to kind of give you the tale of the tape between the two teams. Then, we are going to pick a score and a winner. Won’t this be fun?
