’27 safety experiencing incredible offseason transformation
Jalen Dantzler is listed at 6’1″ tall. He’s taller than that. Dantzler has his weight up to a very solidly built, 190-lbs. Dantzler is blessed with plenty of length on his college ready, Division I frame. We asked a question in this title which journalists abhor. Is Jalen Dantzler the best safety in Kentucky’s high school game? We will attempt to answer that query. Our answer is an emphatic, Yes. The best descriptors don’t end at Dantzler’s play in the defensive backfield (corner or safety). Dantzler is the commonwealth’s premier (and most lethal) weapon in the return game. Dantzler is among the best athletes in Kentucky (4.23-second shuttle). Dantzler is among the commonwealth fastest sprinters and more explosive, twitchy athletes (4.36-40-yard dash, nearly 40-inch vertical with a broad jump approaching 11-feet). Guess what? The D-1s are noticing.

Louisville, KY: Jalen was selected to last season’s Big Ass Fans, Small-School All-State Football team. This is what we said about him at the time:

Jalen Dantzler, ’27 DB (safety), Central High (Lou.) This is one of the fastest and more dangerous players playing 3A football anywhere in Kentucky today. Can’t coach speed. This guy has it in spades. This kid also has height (6’2″) and length, two other attributes one can’t coach. Dantzler registered 54-tackles and forced a fumble. Dantzler housed a pair of kicks and scored a safety for his team. This guy took a kick back, this year, almost the entire length of the field, easily separating from Christian Academy-Louisville’s pursuit. If you can run away from that many D-1s, you should make the All-State football team just for that play. Dantzler was among the more lethal returners in the game, averaging nearly 50-yards a return (49.57) with a long of 82-yards. Dantzler being an all-stater in the sport of football is a hill on which I will gladly die.
We stand by all of that. If anything, this offseason has made those assertions even truer than they were when we selected this all-state team.
Jalen Dantzler is the son of legendary footballand track & field coach, Marvin Dantzler. Should you wish to know the exact meaning of that, and all that it entails, we have graciously provided a link to the article. We published it, last summer, as part of our Slow Motion Series.
The Dantzlers, Jalen and Marvin, have been killing it this offseason. Both men are working hard on Jalen’s explosion, speed, and physique.
Dantzler finds himself among the more coveted prospects in the KHSAA’s 2027 prospect class. Needless to say, Dantzler the Young will figure rather prominently in the Mr. Football race come this next Fall (2026).
Dantzler is up to 190-solidly built pounds. Dantzler’s 40-time clocks in at 4.36-seconds. Dantzler clips off pro agility, short-shuttles in 4.23-seconds with a vertical approaching 40-inches and a broad jump inching toward 11-feet.

Did we mention his 3.3-GPA? Did we mention his height being anywhere from 6’2″ to close to 6’3.” I have stood next to Jalen [Dantzler] and Dantzler is, at least, as tall as I. It has been documented, many previous times, my height is 75-inches.
Did we mention Dantzler’s obnoxiously long arms. His appendages make Dantzler play taller than his height and faster than his 4.36-second, forty and 4.23-second shuttle?
So in answer to the question which began this particular article…is Jalen Dantzler the best safety in the KHSAA? Let us put it this way, Dantzler can do physical things no other Kentucky kid, his age, can do.
Dantzler is a physical freak. Dantzler is an anatomical freak. Our answer would be Yes.
You, of course, may interpret these facts anyway you wish. Last time I checked, it’s a free country.
