’30 big bodied, OL has a ton of length and a ton of upside!
Owen Conley is staring upfront for one of the better, more successful programs at the 5A level of play. We could stop right there and the article is sufficiently impressive. Throw in he has made the 2030 Midwest Watch List, stands 6’6″ tall and weighs 275-pounds with a 6’10” wingspan and you start to see why all the fuss. If you take into account the big man is accomplished on both the hardwood and the gridiron and the picture gets even clearer. It is one thing to be a big-bodied freshman. It is quite another to be a big-bodied freshman who has really good length, can move his feet, has plenty of sink, is agile, and has the power, explosion, and punch to handle opposing, 5A upfield rushes right now enough to garner this type attention. This kid has all that and a bag of chips!

This week our feature is about Owen Conley from Goshen, KY’s North Oldham High School. Conley is a 6’6,” 275 pound, big-bodied, lengthy (6’10” reach) OL who has proven a threat to opponents on a football field with his talent, mobility, speed, savvy, frame, and athleticism.

Conley is willing to do whatever his coaching staff and teammates need. He gives his talent freely for the betterment and enrichment of the team and not necessarily for himself which is a refreshing attribute to see in a young football star.
We believe Conley may be well on his way to making an All-State football team before much longer in his playing career. We talk about him a lot around our offices and his performance is meriting the attention.
This is exactly how great high school programs, like North Oldham, are built and maintained. The great programs are constructed from the ground up, just like great businesses, just like Big Ass Fans.

Goshen, KY: There are coveted and prized physical attributes among offensive linemen. This is particularly true of the edge guys, the tackles charged with stemming or stopping the upfield rush from the opposing ends who happen to be among the fastest, quickest, and best athletes on any defense.
On an offensive line, we like them tall, thick, and long. Of course we prefer them smart, agile, quick footed, powerful with their punch, able to sink and square up a target too. Gone are the days the offensive line is just responsible for getting the first level blocked. Now, they have to get downfield and “get a hat” on smaller, incredibly quick, third level guys.
Watch an offensive line play and you will see a ton of Chip and Climb.Chip and Climb is when we ask big guys to collision a first level threat on his way down the field and pick off the smaller quicker guys stationed at the second and third levels.
Owen Conley is a young guy who has the ability to move his feet, sink into an appropriate pad level, and use his length to stem the upfield rush while using his mobility to climb and be effective blocking down the field. That is why he is already starting, as just a freshman, for a success and contending 5A football program the likes of North Oldham.
Conley made his presence known early on in the year, when the team was still scrimmaging. Conley started earning attention during the North Hardin scrimmage and established himself as a player o whom Coach Roberts could count even back then.
North Oldham is off to a 3-1 start with Seneca on the docket for tonight. North Oldham is coming off a 10-3, ’25 campaign advancing as far as the regional championship round. The Mustangs would like to take that next step. Other than an opening set back to Tates Creek, it appears the Mustangs appear headed in the right direction.

Conley is a 6’6,” 275-pounder who also plays basketball. What we know about footballers who double on the hardwood says plenty about the type of prospect we have here.
Conley plays in the low post. He is accustomed to battling big-bodied basketball players for position, holding off defenders with his length and leverage, sinking into effective offensive and defensive position, and using his eye-hand coordination and “good feet” to score around the basket.
All of those attributes translate to the gridiron. Conley has a 6’10” reach and has used his incredibly physical gifts to see the lineup very early in his playing career at a place where it isn’t easy to play.
Should this kid keep up at his present pace, it is easy to see him going on to play on Saturdays. Should he keep working on his body, agility, mobility, and other physical traits, that next-level looks to maybe be the SEC.
