We got a call from a guy who had seen the transfer from West Tennessee (Bruce Willis) at a seven’s throw. His comment, “I wasn’t too impressed with the kid.” We warned that guy at that time, “[L]et’s wait to pass judgment on him until after he has been practicing with Murray High more than just a few days.” This past weekend Willis completed 10 of 18 passing attempts, accumulated 344-total yards (101 passing, 243 rushing), scored four (4) TDs, and led his Murray High Tigers to a double overtime, 58-50, win over a Class 5A, 1st-District contender in Owensboro Apollo. This was a win in which Willis, personally, scored the go-ahead TD and two-point conversion to seal the victory. I wonder what our agent thinks of Willis now? I will tell you what we think. ’27 QB, Bruce Willis was among the young, high school athletes who also rendered a superior performance while achieving exceptional quality this past weekend in his team’s season opener. Willis helped his team to a double-overtime, 58-50 win over Class 5A, first District, Owensboro Apollo ball club coached by a legend in John Edge.
Well, that is the reason Willis get’s this seasons first jacket patch and is our featured player of the week. If history should repeat itself, and should his performance continue on at this clip as many would anticipate, Willis may find himself on our Big Ass Fans, Small School, All-State Football Team at year’s end.

Murray, KY: Melvin Cunningham has done a tremendous job upon accepting the reigns to the Murray High Tiger football program. The Tigers played for the ’25, Class 3A title at Kroger Field and are looking to get back there and see if they can’t come away with a title.
First, the Tigers will have to replace a QB in Wyatt Robbins who was so good he made our small school, All-State FB team a year ago and is now playing for the Murray State Racers.
The Tigers addressed this concern this past offseason by being fortunate enough to have a transfer, dual threat QB kind of drop into the program’s lap. We have before featured this QB as he was an offseason Feature of the Week not too long ago.
His name is Bruce Willis and he has the same given and surname as a Hollywood leading man. Opening weekend he looked and played like a Hollywood leading man.
Willis moved to Murray to live with his mother. Willis lived with his father a year ago in Dresden.
We have reached out to a scout of the magazine familiar with West Tennessee football. He had some high praise for Willis as a player, student, and citizen.
“Willis is an athlete,” our guy told us. “Willis is big (6’3,” 220-pounds), strong (270-pound bench press, 455-pound back squat, and a 265-pound power clean), and loves the game. If Willis gets downhill and one on one with a defender, Willis ain’t juking, he ain’t head-faking. Willis will square the defender up and either plant him or punish him.”
Apollo would concur after facing Willis in the opener. Whatever was going on out there, there wasn’t much juking occurring.
Lest season, Willis led Dresden to a birth in the 1A playoffs. The Lions were 9-3 and thought to be in statewide contention much of last year (2025). This season, Willis is looking for more, much more…

The Lakers served notice in ’25 that it was a 4A, first-district program with which to reckon. Calloway County will have a target on its back going forward. Continuing to develop talent like Wyatt will be hugely important if the Lakers are to continue to climb the first district, 4A ladder.
Can Coach Cunningham continue the development the same type run of successes he has enjoyed with this program to date? If Coach Cunningham is to do that, he will need sustained brilliant flashes similar to what we saw from his dual-threat weapon, Bruce Willis, in the team’s opening weekend victory against Owensboro Apollo.
We know this, the Tigers will be excellently coached and excellently prepared. We like this program’s track record. We love this program’s trajectory.
This season will go along way in answering questions. Regardless, seeing the answers revealed should prove entirely interesting.
Let’s just hope Bruce Willis continues to demonstrate the skills and ability he shown, thus far in the opening of the 2026 football season. That would really get this program off on the right foot!
