Mykah Foster hopes to restore the Dayton Greendevils to its former glory @mykahfoster2028, @CoachKleckler, @BDPRecruiting, @DaytonISDKY, @DaytonHS_FB, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @bigassfans, @eCampusdotcom

Robert (Bob) "Twenty Grand" Davis, No. 13 for the Kentucky Wildcats, was from Dayton High School

’28 ATH contributes to all three phases

It has been many years since the Dayton Greendevils have walked off old Stoll Field in Lexington, KY with a Class A state football title. The date was November 26, 1966 and the opponent (back then) was Russellville’s undefeated and solidly favored football team. Russellville’s linemen outweighed their counterparts in that game by an average of 30-pound per man. Dayton has a bone fide star these days. Mykah Foster is a ’28 athlete who also plays guard on the varsity basketball team and quite well. If Foster can continue along his present arch, and if Dayton’s Jesse Herbst can find a few more from where Foster came, 2026 could tell a vastly different tale.

Dayton, KY: Talk about a high school with some history behind it, did you know John Wooden, the Wizard of Westwood, coached two years at Dayton High? Yessir, Wooden’s first year was the 1932-33 season and that particular season would represent the only losing record he would ever post as a coach.

Foster (5’10,” 180) ’28

Wooden had a player at Dayton named Robert (Bob) “Twenty-Grand” Davis. Wooden would call Davis, “the best athlete I ever saw or coached.” Considering the athletes Wooden coached at UCLA, like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton, that is quite a mouthful.

Dayton has won a football title too. The Greendevils beat a heavily favored Russellville team, 6-2, on Stoll Field in Lexington, KY. It was the second lowest scoring outcome in state title history, second only to a 7-0 final, posted in 1979, favoring Bellevue over Madison.

We aren’t saying today’s feature, Mykah Foster, is Twenty-Grand Davis. We are saying he may have seemed worth that amount of money to the Greendevils football fortunes last season.

Matter of fact, in 2026, Coach Jesse Herbst may be willing to give twice that for him. If he contributes to the bottom line like he did in ’25, he would be worth it.

Foster (’28) was all over the field for the 3-8, third district, Class A ball club as a sophomore. Foster contributed to all three phases of the team in 2025.

Foster may seem worth “Twenty-Grand” to today’s Greendevils

On offense, Foster carried the ball 82-times for 467-rushing yards with five (5) TDs. Foster caught nine (9) passes for 96-receiving yards and another two (2) TDs. Foster scored four (4) two-pointers on special teams to round out the scoring.

On defense, Foster registered 45-tackles, a FF, and a FR. That is three-phase utility, a characteristic this publication particularly prizes.

Foster is a varsity basketball starter on top of the gridiron. Matter of fact, Foster, as a sophomore guard in basketball, averaged 11.6-points and 2.7-rebounds a game for the 17-11 ball club.

Now the Greendevils were 3-8 in 2025. However, the ball club lost its opener by four to Gallatin, lost by five to Western Hills, and by only six-points to Iroquois (Lou.). That is three one-score margins that, had they gone the other way, would have made the ’25 season a vastly different discussion.

That loss to Western Hills was particularly tough to take. As you guys are aware, Matthew Dawahare’s Wolverines are a 4A ball club.

The future is looking pretty bright for Dayton. Landon Harris (’27) is back to trigger the offense and Malachi Kennedy (170-attempts, over 1,500-yards rushing, 18-TDs) is a classmate of Fosters and also returning.

Throw in the return of Elias Lopez Torres (’27, 84-tackles, 10-TFLs) and Phoenix Dunford (’28), the team’s lone INT, and there are returners back at all key position points. This is the type of talent on which strong teams are often constructed.

Look out for the Greendevils this coming Fall. The team is headed in an appropriate direction and guy like Foster give the 1A program some stars on whom to make bank.
