’28 RB/DB looks poised for breakout season
Jeremiah Smith is the son of a guy (Vance Smith) who was a very skilled and effective defensive lineman back “in the day” for the Christian County Colonels. Smith played his first varsity season and then transferred over to “Hoptown” for its seven (7) win, second round playoff exit ending the ’25 season. Smith played pretty well but his best football is still ahead of him. Smith may end up being the primary ball carrier for the newly configured Christian County Tigers this coming Fall, and should that happen, look for this rising junior to come out of nowhere to shine like a thousand suns. We are high on this kid’s athleticism, speed, power, explosion, and natural RB ability. Smith is a well kept secret. That secret gets out around the Bluegrass today!

Hopkinsville (Christian County), KY: Jeremiah Smith looks the part. Lots of coaches prefer shorter, low to the ground, leverage winning, power-backs with the speed and quicks to break ankles and run through angles coupled with the power and leverage to run up inside for the tough yardage. Check and check…

Smith is a 5’7,” 165-pound muscled up RB/DB combo guy who can plug in at multiple positions in all three phases. Last year the bulk of the carries went to James Bradey, Jr. Of course, Bradley was an All-State RB who is now playing on Saturdays.
Smith had a pretty good, under the radar, type season. Smith, a ’28 prospect, played in 12-games, registered 48-carries, gained 298-yards, and scored four (4)-TDs. Smith caught five (5) passes swinging out of the backside and managed to score 24-points for a fairly potent offense.
Bradley’s close to 1,500-yards rushing and 25-TDs on the ground are out of eligibility. Smith was the second leading ground gainer a year ago and looks to battle DeSean Harris (Christian County Colonels) and Tristen Dillard (Christian County Colonels) for the bulk of the carries in 2026.
That leaves the ground game in the hands of some fairly capable performers. That will be welcome news.
Going forward, we would like to see Smith draw some more opportunities on defense where he appears to be an underutilized asset. We know the Tigers play big boy football (6A) and platooning is the rule and not the exception among the upper echelon of that classification, which we expect the newly consolidated school to immediately enter.
Christian County struggled in 2025 but played better as the season progressed

Smith boasts some characteristics which bode well for multi-phase deployment. Smith has a compact, strong build and should add functional strength this offseason before coming back a junior in the Fall. Smith has a low center of gravity with good balance and pad level through contact.
Smith shows athletic flexibility with a willingness and ability to contribute to more than just offense. Smith gets the quick hitting gains and demonstrates short area burst, averaging five (5) yards a carry over limited playing appearances a year ago. Smith has the ability to get his team the hard, extra, after contact yardage.
One reason we settled on Smith for this offseason feature is Smith’s being the type of citizen and student a community can both support and commend. Smith’s just a great kid from a very nice, well settled, and prominent family.
Identifying a potential weapon like Jeremiah Smith, may give the new Christian County Tigers an advantage over some other newly minted teams in the 6A classification throughout the KHSAA. That is why Jeremiah Smith from Christian County High, is this week’s Lasaters Coffee & Tea, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee Feature of the Week.
We feel it is high time for people around Christian County, KY to take notice of this outstanding young Tiger, Jeremiah Smith, and some of the Tigers’ other outstanding performers. Hey Christian County Tigers, as far as Jeremiah Smith is concerned; it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee!

Join us next week as we return to honor another weekly feature. Until then, get on down to one of our Christian County Area locations and remember, our products are superior and one of a kind; just like Christian County High School’s, Jeremiah Smith.
