’27 DL maybe the best at his position in all of Kentucky
How does Brandon Smith and his South Warren Spartans keep producing monsters like the Jacob Lacey-types (’18) and the Jaquise Smith-types (’27)? There must be something in the water in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Quise, as he prefers to be called, is 6’3,” with a 6’9″ wingspan, and weighs a solid, and well put together 330-pounds. He is ranked by at least one national recruiting service as the 5th-best prospect in KY’s ’27 class and the 71st best nationally. That ranking will only soar as he continues to develop and produce. Smith benches close to 300-pounds, squats a school record 605, cleans 275, broad jumps 7’10,” and has a 23-inch vertical. We call that the “quad-fecta.” Smith is powerful, long, strong, and explosive.

Its size is far from the only selling point about our product. Our product is a Kentucky Comfort Creator…and, these days, isn’t that exactly what Kentucky needs?

Bowling Green, KY: We don’t know how the Spartans do it, but we believe it accounts for the reason the program is yearly in the 5A title chase. This program has a penchant for producing D-1, Power-Four, level talent on its roster.

We think the Spartans have done it once again as ’27’s Jaquise Smith is eerily similar to ’18’s Jacob Lacey. All Lacey did was go from Bowling Green to South Bend (initially).
Smith prefers “Quise.” For the following detailed reasons, we will call him “Mister Smith” if he requires it.
Smith is 6’3,” with a wingspan of 6’9.” We call that “length.”
Smith weighs 330-pounds, can back squat 605-pounds (school record), bench press around 300, and power clean 275-pounds. Smith has a 7’10,” broad jump and a 23″ vertical. We call that “bend,” “sink,” and “explosion.”

Smith shuttles (5-10-5) in 5.1-seconds, and runs the 20 in 3.01-seconds. We call that good “spacial quickness” for a sophomore/rising junior who weighs 330-pounds. We would also call it “athleticism.”

Smith, as a sophomore playing for one of 5A’s more loaded rosters, a 5A team which finished 12-2, was ranked at the top of the classification almost all year, and only lost to the state champion, Bowling Green “Senior” High, by 3-points in the semis. Smith, in ’24, registered 32-tackles, 4-sacks, 2-FFs, and 2-FRs. We call that “varsity production.”
Smith is ranked by at least one nationally recognized recruiting service as the 5th best (overall) prospect in Kentucky’s ’27 graduating class and the 71st best DL in America’s ’27 graduating class. We call that “ballyhooed” and well respected.
Now, he needs a title at South Warren

As you can see, Smith has it all going for him. The only thing left for him to accomplish is a KHSAA title.
Good thing he has another two seasons, and plenty of returning talent surrounding him, to do that. For now, Quise Smith is just a great example of a great big man keeping it cool just like his friends at Big Ass Fans.
