’27 corner and WR focusing on football

The Lakers from Calloway County had a tremendous season last year. They won six games and had some next level development on its play roster. Coby Lewis is getting it done at Calloway and has everyone within the program asking the same question: Why Not Us? Caleb Collins was particularly prodigious, especially on defense. Collins registered 35-tackles, 4.5-TFLs, 1-INT on defense. Collins caught eight (8) passes for 75-yards and a score and carried the ball a couple times for 16-yards. He has a varied skill set which lends itself to multiple phases. The 6’1,” 195-pounder can play corner but is big enough to come up in the run box and play some OLB too. On top of all of that, Collins is a solid and accomplished student. We love versatility at “KPGFootball” and the Bank of Cadiz. We love multi-phase utility. Basically, we love getting our money’s worth and so do you; that is why you do business with us. Here is a football player, student, and athlete who is giving Calloway fans their money’s worth.

’27 Corner/WR, Called Collins was among the local, young, high school athletes who also rendered a superior performance while achieving exceptional quality this past season. What will this star, third level defender and pass catcher pull off this coming season?

Well, that is the reason Collins is our featured player of the week. If history should repeat itself, whatever it turns out to be will be special.

Murray, KY: Coby Lewis continues to do a fine job at the helm of the Calloway County Lakers. His men are getting it done in the weight room this offseason and coming off a fine year (six-wins) with the type talent on the roster to make the faithful wonder just how far Lewis can take this crowd.

Lewis has these fans asking an all-important question. Why not us?

Caleb Collins embodies the infusion of talent the roster has seen developed under Lewis’s watchful eye and persistent efforts. Collins is a 6’1,” 195-pounder who can play corner and OLB in addition to what he brings to the table at WR and running the jet sweep.

Collins brought plenty to the table in 2025, especially defensively. Collins registered 35-tackles, 4.5-TFLs, 1-INT on defense.

Collins caught eight (8) passes for 75-yards and a score and carried the ball a couple times for 16-yards. Collins has a varied skill set which lends itself to multiple phases.

The 6’1,” 195-pounder is big enough to come up in the run box and play some OLB too. With his speed and athleticism, Collins figures to be a producer with the return and coverage units in the Fall for three-phase utility.

Collins can “move around” and has plus size and length. Collins’s jet sweep game is effective if not potentially lethal. Look for Collins to be utilized much more offensively and on special teams over the course of his senior season.

The most important statistic for any player is wins-losses. This defender and sometime offensive utility piece led his team to a six-win finish in 2025 that was pretty close to district contention in 4A’s first district for much of the year. That is easier said than done when you share a district with Paducah Tilghman’s Blue Tornado.

We don’t know Collins’s exact class standing academically. However we have it on good authority he is solid in the academic arena. That is a quintessential characteristic for a corner from whom we expect elite speed, agility, and the ability to play both man-to-man and zone coverages with sound decision making and coverage choices.

Collins has a high IQ. Football, classroom, or otherwise…

The Lakers have a big season upcoming in 2026. They would like to improve on ’25’s six wins. They will have to do it post the graduation of at least one all-timer in Logan Smith.

While Smith has graduated, the remainder of the crew will have to carry on in his absence and are working hard to do just that. There is still plenty of talent around Murray, KY to make the Lakers quite formidable in ’26 and Collins would number among them.

Collins looks to have a firm grasp on corner entering the ’26 season and looks to contribute more offensively

Friday Night Fletch

We believe Collins has a future as a two-way, multi-phase performer. With his frame and athleticism, his playing corner or WR in college is far from out of the question.

Collins has plenty of explosion and power, and has good speed and quicks. Collins has put in the offseason work and effort to hone his craft.

The Lakers have served notice in ’25 that it was a 4A, first district program with which to reckon. Calloway will have a target on its back going forward.

There is a big difference in being the hunted as opposed to being the hunter. Calloway may not quite be the hunter yet; but, they are far from easy prey, far from being overlooked on anyone’s schedule.

Can Coach Lewis continue the development and run of success his Lakers and he have enjoyed? If it is to do that, it will require sustained brilliant flashes similar to what we saw a season ago from Caleb Collins.

We know this, the Lakers will be excellently coached and excellently prepared. We like this program’s track record. We love this program’s trajectory.

This offseason will go along way in answering questions. Regardless, seeing the answers revealed should prove entirely interesting.

Let’s just hope Caleb Collins continues to demonstrate the marked improvement he has shown thus far. That would really get this program off on the right foot in 2026!
