We are inching closer to the end of our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. Jackson Wyatt is simply among the best multi-phase football talents in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game today at the 4A level and in the ’29 graduating class. Wyatt came to the Calloway County High roster under new leadership and Coby Lewis has gone about developing some of the commonwealth’s most talented players. Wyatt has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him and Wyatt is only going to improve over his sophomore season, particularly on offense where he should get many more opportunities. Wyatt is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him (or any other kid). Enjoy the feature.

Caleb Collins is a versatile football talent in the Kentucky-wide, KHSAA football game today who is among the best at his level of play and particularly on the western end of KY. Collins came on our radar with his play last season in Coach Coby Lewis’s inaugural season at the helm of the Lakers’s ship. Since then, Collins has done nothing but confirm we were all right about him from the beginning. Walker Bell is a ’29 guy who can play WR/QB/DB and who has a varied and dramatic athletic skill set. Bell played in six (6) games a year ago and performed admirably in a limited setting. Bell is very likely to round into an all-state performer either split out wide or in the Laker backfield on one or both sides of the scrimmage line. Players like Bell are part of the upgrade and development of talent undertaken by Coach Coby Lewis who is in his second year of an incredibly impressive rebuild. Walker Bell is a 5’9,” 155-pound, multi-phase, multi-sport performer who runs a 4.8-second 40-yard dash and is strong, powerful, explosive, and “twitchy.” Bell also plays soccer so he possess quick and nimble feet. Bell both was and still is a superlatively good athlete who excels at FB in addition to soccer. Luis Ira is a ’26 left guard who was an unsung hero for his Laker ball club which experienced, under first year head football coach, Coby Lewis quite the remarkable turnaround. The Lakers went from winless in ’24 to six (6) wins in ’25 and proved a competitive spirit along the way. People around this program are excited about the strides it is making in a city (Murray, KY) getting known as a hotbed of football competitiveness on Kentucky’s western end. Enjoy the feature.

Very quietly, almost without notice, Coby Lewis, in his first season at the helm of the Lakers, is turning in a whale of a season and turning a lot of heads around the commonwealth in coaching circles. He has “The Lakers” out to a 4-1 start, the best start it started the 2016 season with a 6-1 record and one of Western Kentucky’s great defensive units. This week’s Player of the Week, Logan Smith, enjoyed just a spectacular game, but then again, he has been doing things like this his entire Laker career.
