’24 Colonels beat reigning conference champion, Trinity, 24-12 on Homecoming
The Colonels rode an efficient passing performance from its Junior QB, and a stifling defensive effort, to beat the visiting Tigers (and reigning SAA champions) on Homecoming. Senior Will Long, from Breathitt High, was voted Homecoming King to top it off! Great day at the Frye.

Danville, KY: The last time Trinity lost to Centre in a football game was October 13, 2018. The last time Centre made an NCAA appearance…2018.
Are you seeing a pattern? We are.
This year’s group of seniors have lost to Trinity 27-7 (’21), 41-21 (’22), and 31-3 (’23). The only conference opponent who had a perfect record entering yesterday against the Colonels were the “Tigers.” No more.

Centre came out and played smouldering defense, holding the Tigers out of the end zone until the fourth quarter, and ultimately winning 24-12. This was a game which never seemed in question.
Gohmann led his Colonels down the field on the team’s opening possession to stake the home team to a lead it would never relinquish. The Colonels, “no name defense” which seems to have more units, and moving parts, than a $100,000.00 Swiss timepiece, kept the Tiger offense off balance and out of the end zone until the game was out of reach in the 4th Quarter.
Gohmann was 19 for 26 on the day (73.1 completion percentage) for 268-yards and three TDs. He had a QB-rating of 197.7. That’s how you win a football game.

At half time of the game, William Long was crowned the “Homecoming King” for 2024. Long is a senior NG and elected representative for Centre’s SGA. Long is the president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, which had three members on the court, and has served as a “Kite Daddy” for Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

In high school at Breathitt, Long was a three-time, AP All State (1st-team) football player, making first team his senior year at both center and nose guard. Long was a member of the Herald-Leader Hundred (top 100 HS football players in Kentucky) and a three-time Kentucky high school, powerlifting champion.
Coach Frye said of Long, “Everybody on a football team has a role. William Long’s role on this team is as a leader.”
Frye went on to say, “Long has made us a better team, and better program, with his participation and buy-in to what we are trying to accomplish program-wise.”
Centre takes a 3-1 overall mark, and 1-0 conference record, to Mississippi to play Millsaps College on October 12, 2024 in Jackson. Millsaps enters the contest with an identical 3-1 record and 1-0 conference mark.
The winner of Saturday’s contest will stay on track for a possible conference crown. The loser will still be in the race, though in need of some help from its fellow-members.
William Long’s role on this team is as a leader…
