’24 edition got out the gate 0-2 but have five straight “Dubs” since
Lexington Christian-Academy is rounding into the formidable, 2A contender we envisioned they would be entering the season. They have the best offensive line in the commonwealth among the high school ranks, led by the all-state candidate at center, Hayes Preston, and four others who also have multiple, D-1 offers (Jake Darby, Trefor Thomas, Brooks Kerwin, and Hunter Adams) and one of the better coaching staffs in the Bluegrass. At the end of the day, those prognosticating the program’s demise following its 0-2 start may have “jumped the gun” quite a bit.

One of my favorite anecdotes is attributed to Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) though it is likely Clemons neither said nor wrote it. Regardless, it is a better story if it did come from Clemons than if it didn’t, so we will imagine it authentic.

The story is Twain was taking his morning coffee while scouring over a local newspaper. Twain saw, included in the obituary, the report of his having died. Obviously the reporter (and newspaper) having published that was misinformed.
The humorist quickly jotted a note to the editor of the newspaper which read, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” There are people who doubt Twain ever wrote such a letter to any newspaper but it is such a Twain thing to do, that I believe it, for whatever that is worth.
When Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) staggered out of the gate this season, 0-2, there were questions circulating, throughout the commonwealth, about Charles’ charges. None of those questions were coming from the LCA program, or its coaching staff, but some out there wondered.
“What is up with LCA?” That was a common refrain, throughout the KHSAA, among football fans and listeners to my radio show, “Friday Night Kentucky.”
The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated
Samuel Clemens, “Mark Twain”
Of course, LCA opened against Kentucky’s most formidable team in Boyle County, classification be darned, and then played a Franklin County team in the 4A title hunt this like any other season. There really was no cause for alarm, but you know high school football fans.

Fans love to worry, Fans love to wonder.
For what it is worth, Doug Charles, HFC at LCA, wasn’t worried; or at least he didn’t appear to be. Now, after five straight wins, including over two champions from the ’23 season, Doug Charles also doesn’t appear too surprised.
The Eagles just beat Fort Knox, 62-0, this past Thursday night. LCA rushed for 215-yards while allowing two (2). LCA passed for 59-yards while allowing seven (7).
When is the last time any high school team has been held to nine (9) total yards of offense? Good question.
LCA is 5-2, with a 92% chance of finishing 8-2

LCA is now 5-2 with a WEB Dubois Academy, Washington County, Raceland finish. Chances for an 8-2 heading into the playoffs? Our algorithm has those chances at 92% or thereabouts.
Now, it would appear the Eagles may have to hit the road, ranked sixth (6th) in the present RPI. However, are the Eagles dead yet? No sir, and any report to the contrary is “…greatly exaggerated;” right, Mr. Clemens?
