There was a guy who had some pretty terrific ideas once. Curtis Higgins had a pretty good idea this past Friday night. Play the player on the team who shares a surname with America’s foremost inventor. Thomas Edison (not related to Deon, though we can’t swear an oath to it) was granted 1,093 U.S. patents during his lifetime, with his total number of patents (including international ones) reaching 2,332. His numerous patents covered a wide range of technologies, with some of the most famous and impactful including the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph, and the motion-picture camera. Coach Higgins has had an equally compelling idea, as sound as any the enigmatic inventor principally reared in Port Huron, Michigan, ever had. Coach Higgins decided to let his Mr. Edison, a ’27 prospect who is 5-10, 200 pounds, run the football this past Friday night. It resulted in 113-yards ob six-carries, a 65-yard TD, all in a 57-20 win over the Todd County Rebels. That experiment worked out well.

The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company, based in Cadiz, Kentucky, was founded August 7, 1970. The bank obtained trust powers in 1978.

Hopkinsville, KY
It is a locally owned, independent bank which has expanded, through the years, to locations in Hopkinsville and Murray in addition to Cadiz. The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company has focused on community finance and dealing face-to-face with both families and small-business owners while fulfilling customer needs and the dreams of area families and businesses regardless of size or construct.

A local, young, high school athlete who also renders superior performance while achieving exceptional quality is Trigg County High’s, Deonatae “Deon” Edison, ’27 RB/NG/LB. Edison is this week’s Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company Superior Performance/Exceptional Quality Player of the Week.

Cadiz, KY: Thomas Edison’s first patent was for the Electrographic Vote Recorder, granted on June 1, 1869 (U.S. patent #90,646). It was designed to allow legislators to vote electronically by moving a switch.

The device recorded votes for “yes” or “no” through an electric current. It was not well-received by Congress and was never put to use. Oh well, some ideas are better received than others.
The Trigg County coaching staff had a very good idea Friday Night in the 9th game of the year. Curtis Higgins’ experiment seemed to work extremely well. The Wildcats decided to let Edison carry some of the load. Judging from the 57-20 final score over Todd County, it seemed to work pretty well.
Deon Edison is a 5’10,” 200-pound ’27 prospect who is also an exceedingly versatile athlete capable of playing anywhere from running back, to nose guard, to linebacker. Now if you really think about that…you are talking about a really vast and inclusive set of athletic skills.
In the Wildcats’s game Friday night, several players had standout performances. Some of those performances were the following:
- Deon Edison led the Wildcats’ ground attack, rushing for 113 yards and a 65-yard touchdown on just 6 carries.
- Bryce Husemann added 76 yards on 2 attempts, including a 41-yard touchdown run on his very first touch of the half.
- Zamarrion Broussard set the tone early with a 2-yard touchdown run right at the start of the 30-point second quarter.
- Brody Calhoun opened the scoring for Trigg County with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
- MarQayvion Green capped the scoring late with a 13-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
- Caden Scott directed the offense cleanly, completing 7 of 15 passes for 77 yards and distributing the ball to four different receivers.
One might say it was the usual cast of characters. There is a final game upcoming this coming weekend and it will be played in Cadiz at Perdue Field. Kickoff will be 7:00 p.m. (CDT) and it is a game in which the Wildcats figure to be favored. We would like to preview the matchup, if you will indulge us.
Current Records
- Trigg County Wildcats (2A): 3–6 overall record (2–3 in district play).
- Fulton County Pilots (1A): 4–5 overall record (2–1 in district play).
Matchup & Handicapping Overview
While Fulton County carries a slightly better overall record into this regular-season finale, Trigg County holds a distinct advantage due to classification depth and schedule strength.
- Class Separation: Trigg County competes in Class 2A, while Fulton County is a smaller Class 1A program. The size and depth advantages generally favor the upper-class program in late-season, non-district games.
- The Common Opponent Metric: Both teams faced Class 1A Caverna this season. Fulton County went on the road and handled them comfortably in a 58–6 blowout. However, Trigg County absolutely dominated Caverna earlier in the season, putting up a staggering 65–19 victory.
- Home Field Advantage: Trigg County has secured all three of their wins on their home turf this season (3–2 home record). On the flip side, Fulton County struggles heavily when forced to travel, logging a tough 1–4 away record.
- Recent Momentum: Trigg County is coming off an explosive 57–20 thrashing of Todd County Central on October 23. Their offense has proven it can score in bunches against teams that struggle defensively. Fulton County fought for a 51-9 throttling against a weak Russellville squad, but their offense may find it harder to move the chains against a more physical 2A line.
Prediction & Final Score
Trigg County’s offensive versatility and home stadium comfort will prove too much for the Class 1A Pilots to sustain over four quarters. Expect the Wildcats to use their ground game to wear down Fulton County by the second half.
- Winner: Trigg County
KPGFootball predicts: Trigg County 42, Fulton County 34
Edison and the Trigg County Wildcats are playing really well, a trend that should continue as long as the Wildcats stay focused and healthy. The frontline players, manning the starting slots, are athletic and skilled. Some of the depth isn’t, but that is a common lament among KHSAA coaches.
We can’t make it any simpler than that. We’ll see you at the game!
