With apologies to the late Yogi Berra, you will have to forgive us if what happened Friday night in Hartsville felt a little like déjà vu all over again… For what amounts to the third season in succession, the Wildcats have lost its starting QB in either the opener or the second game. In stepped Jacob Stewart, a precocious, young freshman QB called upon to lead the varsity offense in a year where he didn’t expect to be doing such things. It just goes to show, one has to be omnipresently prepared, ready. This week our jacket patch goes to the young freshman thrust into the lineup against a tough road game with a bigger road game looming. He will be expected to be prepared, to be ready, and to perform. Enjoy this look at young Jacob Stewart who is our Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company All-State Player of the Week and second patch-recipient this young season.

The season is just about to start and the Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company has signed on for another exciting season of featuring area star players and helping these young men net scholarships to further their academic and athletic careers. The Bank is committed to its customers and their dreams for a brighter and better future. They have proven it and it is why the Bank of Cadiz & Trust company is our bank, our family. Enjoy this look at a Trigg County Wildcat who promises to be a real offensive threat for the Wildcats both running jet and catching passes over the top and in space in ’26. Zamarrion Broussard showed against Northwest High (Clarksville) this past Friday night that he will be a weapon on which to lean going forward. The season is here. Let’s all get ready to enjoy this fine and athletic player and the fantastic journey Coach Higgins and kids will travel with all of us this Fall.

He looks to lead the Wildcats into ’26, his final year, and then will depart us for the college football ranks. We will miss Brody Calhoun when he’s gone but let’s not think about that right now. Instead, let’s all get ready to enjoy this his senior season and the fantastic journey Coach Higgins and kids will travel with all of us this Fall.

We continue on with our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players, prospects, and sometimes a coach or two. Curtis Higgins coming home to coach a program he led his first tour to its highest winning percentage in program history is too much of a story on which to pass. Higgins is a member of the Louisville area Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame and has historically been among the commonwealth’s more talented and successful coaches. Higgins is only going to improve the program’s prospects in our estimation. Higgins is the kind of head football coach one wants his kid to have mentoring him. In the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him (or any other head football coach). Enjoy the feature.

Friday Night Fletch.
