Lasaters...time to wake up and smell the coffee!

’29 ATH hoping to plug in a play at the newly consolidated school

The final chapter in the Christian County Colonels installment left much to be desired. That doesn’t mean there won’t be some truffles hidden among the roots of the former program that Coach Lopez will want to dig up and potentially utilize. TJ Booker is a 5’10,” 155-pounder who played in six (6) games for the Colonels as a freshman and recorded a tackle and made meaningful contributions to the special teams coverage and return units. This guy could break out in a big way when the “new” high school opens play in 2026. This will be fun and exciting to watch.

Hopkinsville, KY: The Christian County Colonels were a steeped and successful football program for many years. There was a time when the Colonels were the only public high school, outside of Louisville, to win the commonwealth’s largest classification in the sport of football (4A).

McCarley hands it off

Last season, Christian County had a rough go of it. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some young talented players from off that roster who might well play their way into the rotation in the consolidated school’s inaugural season. We believe TJ Booker is “one of those.”

TJ Booker is a 5’10,” 155-pounder who made a limited contribution on defense and more pronounced contribution on the return and coverage units in the kicking/punting game. Booker registered a tackle, if the stats online are to be credited.

Coach Dustin Lopez and newly assembled staff are hard at work evaluating the talent and finding ways to mold together a single roster from two former ones. There will be lots of talent, lots of athletes. TJ Booker is certainly one.

There is some returning talent which figures prominently this coming season. Last season Jasiah McCarley completed 11 of his 20-passing attempts for 283-yards and 4-TDs against district one heavyweight, McCracken County. James Bradley, Jr., heading to college to play, gained 283-yards rushing and scored 3-times over the ground to go with his 97-yards receiving (4-receptions).

McCarley proved his performance was to be sharp for the Tigers all season. On the year, McCarley was 101 for 207 for 2,065-yards and 20-TDs against 6-picks. McCarley also had a TD rushing.

McCarley was quite the prospect and definitely enters 2026 in the running for ranking among 2028’s top QB prospects, commonwealth-wide. McCarley could use a tall, long, lanky, speedy target to whom to throw. Perhaps Booker will be one of the answers to go along with his defensive play.

Identifying a potential weapon like Booker, should certainly help get the new Christian County Tigers ready for the challenges ahead. That is why we selected Booker to be our Lasaters Coffee & Tea, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee Player of the Week.

McCarley threw for over 2,000-yards, competed over 100-passes, and was only picked six (6) times in ’25

That being said, we feel it is high time for people around Hopkinsville, KY to take notice of this outstanding Tiger team and some of its outstanding performers. Hey Hoptown High, as far as TJ Booker is concerned; it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee!

We don’t know what the future holds for the Tigers as two former rosters will join to form one football team. It will be both a hard and bitter pill for sworn enemies to disavow age-old prejudices in favor of comity and uniting against new foes, common foes. There will assuredly be new enemies, new teams to hate.

We do know this, the new Christian County Tigers may find some truffles hidden amongst the roots of the Christian County former football roster. They may find some next-level type kids to utilize, and on whom they may rely, as the two rosters mix together into one. It must may take a little bit of digging.

Identifying Booker as one of those “truffles” is hardly a stretch. One has to look, one has to hunt. Truffles wouldn’t be so expensive if just anyone could find them. That is why we are paying Lopez The Big Money.

We can’t make it any more accurate nor simple than that. We’ll see you at the games this Fall!
