Who’s the next back to gain 2,000 yards for Johnson Central? Our guess is @devinfootball44 (Devin Johnson, Class of 2020), the LB!

KPGFootball over the years has been fairly effusive in our praise of Devin Johnson. Of course we are impressed with football players more so than kids who are just “prospects.” That shouldn’t be interpreted as meaning Devin Johnson isn’t a prospect because there are lots of Division I football teams, FCS and FBS, who would beg to differ. However, when it comes to being a football player, there’s none better anywhere in the commonwealth of Kentucky’s rising senior class than Devin Johnson, and with a 3.5 GPA and a 23 on his ACT, he’s fully qualified and ready for action as soon as he hits the campus.

Consider this, on offense last year, Devin Johnson, from fullback, gained 1,218 yards rushing on 108 carries (11.3 yards a carry) and scored 14 rushing TDs. Devin Johnson fans don’t even think of him as an offensive player. We think of him as a 6-0, 210-pound LB who had 107 tackles in 2018, 21 of which were behind the line of scrimmage together with an additional 5.5 QB sacks.

Now, if one is wanting to run the football, Johnson Central is the place for you. Consider this, Johnson Central had an over 2,000-yard rusher in 2016 (Joe Jackson, 2,049 yards from scrimmage in 157 carries with 31 rushing TDs), a nearly 2,000-yard rusher in 2017 (Blake Gambill, 1,907 yards from scrimmage in 252 carries with 25 rushing TDs), and an over 2,000-yard rusher sharing the backfield with Johnson in 2018 (Joe Jackson, 2,316 yards from scrimmage in 215 carries with 31 rushing TDs). Well, Jackson and Gamble are gone so who’s the 2,000-yard rusher in 2019? Hell, why not Devin Johnson?

Devin Johnson gained 118 yards on 19 carries as a freshman, 756 yards on 104 carries with 12 rushing TDs as a sophomore, and 1,218 yards on 108 carries with 14 rushing TDs as a junior. Nobody much considers one of Kentucky’s very best LBers an offensive player, and yet he enters his senior year having rushed for 2,092 yards on 231 carries (9.1 yards a carry over three years) with 26 career TDs scored. Johnson would be in easy reach of most schools’ all-time rushing leaders and he has been a backfield after-thought while at Johnson Central.

There are certain things on which we would bet at KPGFootball if we could find a bookie to take the action. First, Warren Central will be the most improved team in all of Class 4A football in 2019. Second, Meade County will ABSOLUTELY NOT have a losing record in 2019. Third, Louisville Trinity won’t either. All of these seem like safe bets to us.

Here’s a fourth one…Devin Johnson will gain either close to or over 2,000-yards from scrimmage, in 2019, and will score 30-plus TDs. We would guarantee 130-plus tackles, 27 or more TFLs, and 8-plus QB-sacks defensively but we don’t think we could find a taker for that action. If anyone wants any action on those other four items however, you know where to find us!
