What are the chances the Beechwood Tigers are going to bring back an all-time football coach and then lose his opening game back on the home sideline? As the British would say, “Not bloody likely!” Beechwood opened up last night in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky against a Cincinnati, Ohio team in Indian Hill (Braves) who were coming off a 13-1 season in ’25 with plenty of talent returning. Indian Hill was a slight favorite entering the game. We took Beechwood at home because of Rash, because of Wake commit Emmett Queen at QB, because of Tyler Fryman (WR/ATH, UK commit), and because of Nathan Pabst (uncommitted) at WR/ATH. Mostly, we took Beechwood because we believe in the quality of KHSAA football and its depth and its quality of play and quality of competition. Brady Atwell is firmly in the hunt for Kentucky’s “Mr. Football.” His uncle won the distinction in 1999 and playing at a level (Class A) which hasn’t boaster too many winners. Brady has a tough road to haul with Beechwood coming to Lexington seeking the same distinction as the Catholic club. What a job Chase Flaherty did filling in at RB for the newly crowned 2A Kentucky Champions, Beechwood, after it lost its “Mr. Football” candidate Mitchell Berger. Almost makes you think the Tigers are elite across the offensive front, which is the case by the way. Still, the championship game came down to Mayfield’s extra-point attempt sailing wide of a college goal post which would have been good had the kicker been kicking toward a high school goal post. The Tigers chances of repeating as Champions seemed to take a hit when Mitchell Berger went down with season ending surgery. Programs like Beechwood reload, not rebuild. So the Tigers loaded a couple of sophomores in the backfield behind maybe the commonwealth’s elite offensive line and they are right back in the Semis challenging for the program’s third straight 2A title. Cameron Hergott won the Coach’s “Mr. Football.” He is also a former recipient of the Mingua Beef Jerky’s “Protein-packed Performer of the Week.” That should show you the Mingua people know their football!
