It has been sixteen years since Graves has beaten Mighty Mayfield in a football game. Well, sir; Friday night the Eagles won the battle of the birds over the Cardinals 35-28. We take a minute to reflect on all the things which have occurred since Graves last won this game. Enjoy the feature.

They have a group of people named “Dotson” around Pike County, KY (Belfry). These boys can flat out ball. We got a note from legendary head football coach, Phillip Haywood, asked us to take a look at Max Boston, his senior offensive center. We like what we saw of this 6’2,” 310 pound blocking machine. He sort of reminded us of UK’s Drake Jackson. I remember him working out pretty well. Enjoy the feature. Friday Night Fletch.
We thought we would offer a little pep-talk for the over 200 teams in Kentucky who will take the field this evening. You’re ready. Now go get your money!
Friday Night Fletch
Well, it is the opening weekend of the high school football season in Kentucky. I have gone “hog wild” in picking 32 opening games looking for 28 or more “winners.” Can I do it? We shall see.

The final preseason tune-up bode well for the near future as the Storm went 4-0 in varsity and JV scrimmages in a three team round robin including Russellville and Ohio County. We will break down the action from that outing and see if we can’t read the tea leaves regarding the upcoming future. Enjoy this feature.

Here’s something to celebrate. Johnson Central get Zack McCoart back in the rotation at RB for ’24. That is something to celebrate. We thought we might send along some beef jerky and a sweet T-shirt for the party. Enjoy this feature and don’t forget to #SavorTheFlavor.

Deven Leclercq from Southwestern High is a lineman about whom we warned you this time last year. He was coming off an impressive freshman campaign and entering his sophomore season among the very best the class of ’26 had to offer. A year later, he hasn’t done anything to dampen our enthusiasm about his next level prospects. Enjoy the feature.

We have been focusing on versatility this offseason. We can’t think of a more versatile specimen than a guy who successfully stars in three varsity sports. This guy is ranked among the Derby City’s very best and is already sporting an offer to play at DePauw in Indiana. We love the Monon Bell Classic. Just thought we would throw that in there. Friday Night Fletch.
We used to say when I was in the law game that nobody knows all the answers but that a wise man knows where the answers may be found. When I need perspective I have a text group I consult. These guys are either already in the KHSAA Hall of Fame or headed there immediately upon becoming eligible. I got a couple to weigh-in on the relative importance of preseason scrimmages and this is what the two gentlemen had to offer. Friday Night Fletch.
We are steamrolling into the season opener on August 23rd. There is still the matter of a scrimmage against the Russellville Panthers. The Panthers were an extremely young, inexperienced team a year ago. These guys are always athletic and the added experience should indicate a different Panther squad than the one we saw limp to a 2-9 finish in 2023. Enjoy this “scouting report.” Friday Night Fletch.
