Central has two varsity wins and two JV victories in round-robin preseason scrimmage
Central logged its final preseason scrimmage against Russellville (1A, D1) and Ohio County (5A, D2) in a three team round robin. The storm played two scrimmages against the other two teams and two JV scrimmages with all sides emerging victorious for a four (4) and zero (0) evening. Next up, Caldwell (2A, D1) in the opener in Princeton, KY. We had an agent at the scrimmage. This is what he told us about it.

Morton’s Gap, KY: There is a musician who goes by the name “Keith AB.” He has a song entitled, “Unbridled Optimism.” The song has been described, in 75orlessrecords.com, as a “…delicious mixture of indie rock, garage, and power-pop.”
That comes pretty close to describing the mood around Hopkins County Central as we open the ’24 season tomorrow night in Princeton, KY. A much re-worked lineup is similar to driving a new car. There is a time to learn if the sucker runs or not.
The Storm’s performance in its last tune-up has provided a reason for optimism. Our “new car” cornered and purred pretty darn well in the test drive.
In the Storm’s last meaningless outing, the varsity and JV both experienced a couple wins a piece. It was a round-robin scrimmage with Russellville and Ohio County.
Russellville, a 1A power accustomed to playing up classifications, looked much improved over the ball club which managed two wins a year ago. Ohio County looked to our agent to be “in rebuilding mold.”
The Storm played 12 or so minutes against Russellville and then the same amount against Ohio County at both the varsity and JV levels. Central outscored Russellville 14-6 and vanquished Ohio County, a 5A team, 8-6 in the varsity scrimmages.
Central had two long TDs recalled for penalties. Those type costly mistakes are in bad need of remedy and don’t need to turn into year-long issues.
Carter Edwards (’25) caught a TD from Isaac Earl (’26). Another TD was scored on a Zayden Parker (’25) short run. Silas Gunn (’26) had 80 (or so) all purpose yards and a 30-yard TD run while not allowing a catch to go along with five or so tackles from his corner post, one of which was for a sizable loss.
The Storm brace for a trip to Princeton followed by a home opener against a Fort Campbell team the Storm overcame a year ago, on post, but who is steadily improving under new leadership. If the Storm can come out of the first two, 2-0, it faces a rivalry game with North-Hopkins in Madisonville.
The prognosticating is over, folks. Time to take out our new lineup for a cruise around the proverbial block.
