Looking for a Mr. Football? We may have the man, right here, in Jarren Johnson from Union County! @55CoachJohns, @JarrenJohnson1_, @ChiefSmoke10, @sportingtimes, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans

Jarren Johnson, 5'7," 180-pounds of "Athlete" for Union County High

Five-foot, seven-inch, one hundred and eighty pounder (5’7,” 180) might well be the best ’25 Athlete in the KHSAA

It is getting time to cast ballots for Mr. Football. All we are saying here is what is wrong with voting for a diminutive, all-a-around, multi-phase performer who has led his team to its most successful season in program history and has them on the cusp of a first-ever state championship? Johnson has the stats for “Mr. Football.” That is provided you consider 2,533-yards rushing, 43-TDs, in 241-carries good enough. Then again, he has contributed way more than just that, and that is a lot. Johnson has also contributed 629-yards of passing, 6-TDs through the air, 46-tackles, 4.5-TFLs, and 4-picks. Don’t forget the 18.4-points per game he has scored for his semi-state champion, 12-2, ball club about to play on Kroger Field for the 3A title.

Morganfield, KY: Sometimes it is not just what you do but against whom you do it. That was the case with Jarren Johnson last Friday night.

Sure, Johnson has been tearing it up all year. In all fairness, there is a huge difference between 3A, District 1 and the eight-time, KHSAA champion, Belfry Pirates. There is a big difference between facing a first district head coach and Kentucky’s all-time, winningest coach (Phillip Haywood).

Johnson may well be the best athlete in the KHSAA. Johnson has completed 64% of his passing attempts (31 for 69), for 629-yards and six aerial TDs. Not awe-inspiring, but certainly efficient.

Johnson has gained 2,533-yards and housed 43 ground scores in 241-carries. That is 10.5 or so yards a carry and a TD every five and a half tries.

Johnson has scored 258-points, or 18.4 per game, for a 12-2 team traveling to Lexington to attempt to win the program’s first-ever title. All of these feats are amazing.

Johnson also plays defense and we don’t mean tokenly. The ’25 athlete has 46-tackles, 4.5 TFLs, a FF, and 4-picks on his seasonal scorecard with one left to play.

Johnson gained 246-yards and scored four rushing TDs against Belfry Friday night

KHSAA Statistical Website

Against an eight-time, KHSAA champion in Belfry, Johnson’s game changing talents were on full display. Johnson was four for four through the air for 49-yards. Johnson carried the football 31-times, gaining 246-yards, and scoring four rushing TDs.

Mr. Footballs

In a 43-21 rout, Johnson outscored Belfry by himself. Final tally, Johnson 24, Belfry 21. Johnson even picked a couple errant Belfry passes.

There are football purists perplexed by Belfry’s having thrown two forward passes on the evening, much less throwing two to Johnson. On the program’s biggest stage in its history, its best athlete insured it would come off the field with victory.

For those looking for “bottom lines,” we have one. Bottom line, Johnson has performed at an all-state level on offense this season. Johnson has performed at an all-state level on defense. Add it all together, and Johnson has performed at a Mr. Kentucky Football level.

That is our take. Then again, what do we know?
