Long just made plays every chance he got!

Jack Long was run over by a bread truck when living in Jackson, KY. Ever since, Long has played football intermittently when his head would permit. Last year, Long suffered another concussion against Mayfield and was medically retired. That was a real shame because Long was a fantastic football player who made plays every opportunity afforded him. Long still works out and keeps himself in shape. While he may not be able to play his final year, he will either be on the sideline or in the press box helping “his guys” any way he can. May God bless the Jack Longs across the commonwealth as they are the true dreamers, the true believers, and the guys who keep football what it is to so many across our great commonwealth.

Friday Night Fletch

Hopkinsville, KY: Jack Long is an extraordinary athlete. With Track & Field upon us, Long will be headed to the black top to compete in sprints, distances, and as a hurdler. Like we said, Long is a fine athlete.

Long was a fine football player. Wherever Long was positioned, whether offense, defense, or special teams; all Long did was make plays to benefit his team. However, Long suffered a serious injury which impaired his ability to continue to play the sport he loves.

That shouldn’t be taken to mean Long didn’t contribute to the last Christian County football team. In ’25, not only did Long contribute substantially to the tackle numbers, but he may have saved a life. Here is the link to that article.

After the Mayfield game, Long was medically retired from the active roster. Long would enter the game, in the last Hoptown/Christian County matchup, for one play on special teams; but, it was in a role which was sure to not endanger Long to further injury.

The rest of the time, Long was an assistant varsity football coach. In that role, Long helped the staff in the press box coach by calling coverages for the defensive backfield.

Long relished the coaching role. Long has indicated to KPGFootball he might be interested in coaching HS football as a career path.

Let’s hope Coach Dustin Lopez permits Long a similar opportunity for the consolidated team. Developing tomorrow’s talent, be they players or coaches, is a worthwhile and important role for all present day professionals.

All in all, Long played in seven (7) games in 2025, earned his third varsity letter in football, made quite a few tackles and highlight reel worthy hits, and may well have saved a coach’s life at practice. All in all, not a bad year.

What will Long do in ’26, his senior year? What ever it is, we are pretty sure it will be in an off the field capacity.

Regardless, Jack Long is a winner. Jack Long is one hard working, tough customer.

For whatever it is worth, Long was a darn-fine football player and three-time, varsity letter winner. Just who across Kentucky is in any better position to render this type commentary than KPGFootball?

That is what we thought. We’ll see you at the games this Fall.
