St. Xavier’s Tigers have been playing championship level football for many years around the commonwealth’s largest classifications. The Tigers have won 15 KHSAA state football championships across different classifications, with titles in 1962, 1969, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1986, 1992, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2016, 2021, and 2023. What this means is the Tigers are contenders each and every year. We don’t believe ’25 will be materially different and we believe Mason Trimble will be among the many reasons why. Logan Smith is a dude. If you haven’t read the book “Football 101: Boo-Boo’s a Quarterback” that may be an empty reference for you. Smith has made the All-WKC three straight years and was Calloway’s Defensive POY a year ago. Smith will be laboring under a new staff in ’25 (Coby Lewis) and we believe that may be a match made in heaven. Enjoy the feature.

Ohio County struggled through an 0-11 campaign in 2024. That doesn’t mean the Eagles won’t be significantly improved in 2025. Matter of fact, we believe the prospects for the Ohio County Eagles are considerably rosier than this time a year ago. One bright spot was the play of Carson Powers and he returns. This guy has 27-years experience at the helm of programs at Trigg County, Hopkinsville, and Madisonville North-Hopkins and infinitely more experience as an assistant coach throughout the commonwealth. Also noteworthy is his being the greatest of all time in the world of Kentucky high school powerlifting, which is one heck of a fun cover, by the way. Greeneville, Kentucky has been described by one of our generation’s finest folk artists and song writers (John Prine) as “paradise.” We don’t know about that, but don’t dispute it, but we do know the Mustangs have some enviable, young talent to mix in with some big-time returners for the ’25 Fall season. One of those returners is Trever Hardesty who, we have been assured, will NOT come off the field next season. It is one thing to be the unofficial mayor of “Title Town.” It is quite the other to be a main reason why the town is so christened. Sam Harp is among the greatest to ever grace a sideline. Harp won 75% of his games in Danville, retired 326-106, won seven titles, and posted an unbelievable 82-21 post-season, playoff record. Along the way, he co-Authored a book with me about which no one, associated with football at the KHSAA level, can seem to stop reading. Enjoy this look at the great Sam Harp.

Larry Irvin is called “PeeWee.” That isn’t a name which opponents of the Bruins call Irvin. His performance at times in ’24, as a junior, was down right major league. Irvin turned it on when the playoffs began and led his team past Male High in round two in overtime. One doesn’t get much more versatile than Fort Campbell’s JaCaryous “JP” Perryman. Last season, as a junior (’26), Perryman rushed for 603-yards, housed seven (7)-TDs rushing, completed 62-passes for 912-yards and 13-TDs, caught four (4) passes for 62-yards and a TD, housed eight two-pointers, registered 20-tackles, forced two fumbles, recovered one, and picked a pair of passes for 5-IRNYs. Say all of that three times really fast. The guy is a fantastic athlete who competes in multiple sports for his high school which competed at a high level a year ago in winning half its games. Henry Morgan plays for a program which has seen better days. Henry Clay High won a 4A title in 1981 and played for a second one in 1995. That was when there weren’t but four (4)-classifications. The Blue Devils are ready to get this ship righted and have brought in a proven “program builder” in Phil Hawkins. With talent like Henry Morgan entering his junior season, it won’t be too hard for the Blue Devils to keep it comfortable out there around district 7.
