Austin Sperry from Breathitt High is the @minguabeefjerky Protein-packed Performer of the Week @bigassfans, @KyHighFootball, @AustinSperry, @BreathittFB

’25 WR/DB is a nationally ranked basketball prospect and showed he’s pretty good at FB too

Austin Sperry is a 6’4,” human highlight reel of a dunking machine. Sperry, ranked in the top 20 basketball recruits in the entire KHSAA, isn’t too bad at football either. Matter of fact, we have it on good authority Sperry has caught more passes and touchdowns than any other Breathitt Bobcat in that program’s illustrious history. Friday night, Sperry delivered a jerky-worthy effort. With Sperry’s height, length, and vertical explosion, we are quite sure his football playing days may not be over in spite of his (rather obviously) heading to college to play on the hardwood.

Jackson, KY: Mingua Beef Jerky uses Enviro-Pac CHU-2000 equipment to cook its meat to USDA required levels for both moist or dry operation. Mingua Beef Jerky wants you to become one of its many satisfied customers by sampling its quality hand sliced, all natural beef jerky. We know you’ll love it and come back for more, again and again.

Ronnie Mingua began experimenting with making beef jerky back in the 1990s. He shared his efforts with neighbors and friends, soon realizing he had come up with something different and superior to all other beef jerkies on the market. From these humble beginnings, Mingua Beef Jerky got its start.

Today, the Mingua Beef Jerky Company still prides itself on using its old-fashioned, all-natural recipes which offer outstanding products to customers across the nation. The recipes are a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.

Our recipes and our quality ingredients, hand-cut from solid pieces of beef, are never chopped or formed like other brands, making our products superior and one of a kind. That would make our products similar to this week’s Protein-packed Performer, Austin Sperry ’25 WR/DB from Breathitt High in Jackson, Kentucky.

Jackson, KY: Austin Sperry is one of Kentucky’s finest prospects in basketball. The internet is swimming in “Austin Sperry” highlight “jam sessions” evidencing his fantastic “hops” and showcasing rim-rattling dunks.

Now we are going to tell you something about Sperry you may not know. He is a division one, caliber, football prospect too. Ask Eastern Kentucky University. The Colonels have offered him for both sports.

Breathitt makes the trek to play Beechwood this coming Friday night in the KHSAA’s second round. Breathitt is 6-5 and will enter that game playing its best football of the season.

The Bobcats have some young talent coming around and performing well; guys like Miles Hollon (QB) and Eli Thomas (RB), a pair of ’28s. The Bobcats have some older guys also rounding into peak performance; guys like Sawyer Hall (’26), Waylon Abner (’26), Jayden Gibson (’26), Carson Miller (’26), and Sebastian “Bash” Howard (’26).

Of course there is Austin Sperry. Sperry is a ’25 guy who blows the top off defenses with his incredible height (6’4″), length, speed (4.4-second 40-yard dash), and verticality (40-inch vertical).

Sperry caught four (4) balls for 177-yards and three touchdowns(3) TDs in the first round

KHSAA Statistical Website

Sperry had a great round one. He caught four (4) passes for 177-yards and three (3) TDs. On the year, Sperry has caught 20 passes, seven (7) of which were TDs, for 648-yards receiving. Here’s the kicker; he hasn’t played in but seven (7) games.

James Cusick, ’25 WR/DB

Sperry has averaged 32.4-yards a reception this season. He is darn close to 100-yards per game in receiving yards. This past Friday night, in round one, Sperry averaged 44.25-yards a reception with three of the four catches finding pay dirt.

Beechwood ain’t no dog, if you will pardon the poor grammar. The Tigers, from Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, are 9-1 on the year with the only loss being to Covington Catholic, a 4A power.

This will be a tough task, to go on the road and try to take down a program which has hung 17 banners around its stadium walls, including three straight 2A banners in 2020, ’21, and ’22. However, the Tigers would be wise to not overlook these Bobcats. Just because a puppy may be young, doesn’t mean he won’t bite!

Join us next week as we return to honor another weekly prize winner. Until then, pop some Mingua Beef Jerky in your mouth and savor the quality and flavor which sets it apart from the competition. Remember, our product is superior and one of a kind; just like Breathitt High’s Austin Sperry.

This is Friday Night Fletch reporting for Kentucky Prep Gridiron and reminding you to PLAY THROUGH THE WHISTLE. Don’t forget to SAVOR THE FLAVOR!
