This player has made every All-Whatever Team available to him in his short HS career and figures to keep making these teams. He has the nose for the football one would expect from a kid whose dad (Shorty Combs) is considered a mountain football legend and former EKU linebacking star. College recruiters are always inquiring and searching for an attribute known as “growth potential.” Growth potential is (basically) the likelihood a prospect’s best football and pronounced physical development still lies ahead of him. These are the “late bloomers.” Jacob Parker may embody this attribute better than any player who made either our Small or Large School All-State Football Teams. The Bobcats figure to be in the thick of the title hunt in ’23 and its “Big Blue Wave, (0-line)” will have plenty to say about why the fortunes are so rosy. Kory Combs (’25, Breathitt, LB/FB) and Blake Evans (’25, Bell County, LB/FB) appear to be friends. Evan Miller is one of the better framed out ’24s at the Center position along the interior OL. Here is the rub. He has to beat out his younger, hard-charging little brother Carson to hold on to the spot. This should be a spirited battle going forward and the winner will be the Bobcat program and the losers will be the Bobcat opponents. Hey, this is what makes high school football the greatest game on earth in this publication’s opinion. HB.

Jacob Parker, the one to whom the white arrow points, is a late to the party player like so many others we have before featured. Parker transferred in to Breathitt from a high school which didn’t field a football team. He has been a wonderful surprise with a work-ethic which encircles many kids his age and has now worked himself into someone we have noticed. Look for him to start along the Big Blue Wave in ’22 at OT and to contribute at DE. HB.

An agent of the magazine was at this scrimmage which was “Meet the Cougars” night at Letcher Central. The Cougars got to meet one of Breathitt’s more potent offensive weapons for the ’21 season in Isaac “Wheels” Turner. Turner was scintillating in this scrimmage and gave a foreshadowing of what kind of threat he poses opposing defenses on the schedule in ’21.
