’30 QB thrust into QB-1 role against very difficult opponent and circumstance
Something about this story seems eerily familiar. A junior, established QB gets injured and a freshman gets thrust into a difficult situation to answer the call for the team. I think Jacob Stewart need look no further than Caden Scott for advice as to how to handle such a situation. Sometimes we pick a player of the week based off of what a player did in the last game. This week we are picking Stewart based on both what he was charged with doing and what he will be called upon to do going forward. The Wildcats will be traveling to play a Marshall County (5A) football team coming off a loss to Trigg County’s district foe, Caldwell County. Ever heard the song, 🎶Anything you can do, I can do better?🎶 Let’s hope that rings true.

’30 QB, Jacob Stewart was among the young, high school athletes who also rendered a superior performance while achieving exceptional quality this past weekend in his team’s first road trip to play the Hart County High Raiders. Stewart was thrust into action when the Wildcats, for the third consecutive year, lost its starting QB to injury in either the first or second game.
Well, that is the reason Stewart get’s this season’s second jacket patch and is our featured player of the week. If history should repeat itself, and should his performance continue on at this clip, and should Stewart continue to improve as many would anticipate, Stewart may find himself on a future Big Ass Fans, Small School, All-State Football Team one of these years. I mean, who knows…?

Friday Night Fletch
Cadiz, KY: Well something familiar happened Friday night on the road in Hartsville. Starting QB, experienced and effective junior signal caller Caden Scott, succumbed to injury. That is the third consecutive year a starting quarterback at Trigg has gone down either the first or second week.
Freshman, Jacob Stewart, came in to run the offense. Coach Higgins indicated Stewart will be prepared to play on the road, next week, when Trigg travels to 5A, Marshall County.
Higgins told a rival publication, YourSportsEdge.com, Jacob came in and did fine. Nobody expected [Stewart] to have to play in a varsity game; but, he’s going to have to get ready this week because we don’t know what the deal is with Caden [Scott].
As for handling this bit of adversity, Coach Higgins promises his charges will handle whatever situation should present itself. Higgins told YourSportsEdge.com, “If Caden’s out, we’ll handle it. You have to. You have to go on, and that’s just what you’ve got to do. Football’s a tough game. It takes tough people.”
Trigg will stay on the road to face Marshall County, which fell 42-10 to Caldwell County Friday in Draffenville. Marshall County presents a challenge with its 5A enrollment, 5A roster, 5A depth. Coach Higgins believes his Wildcats will meet this test.

“We’ve just got to get better and improve on things,” Higgins told YourSportsEdge.com. “When adversity hits, we’ve got to toughen up and hopefully make something good happen for us.”
We know this, the Wildcats will be excellently coached and excellently prepared. We like this program’s track record. We love this program’s trajectory.
This season will go along way in answering questions. Regardless, seeing the answers revealed should prove entirely interesting.
Let’s just hope Jacob Stewart continues to demonstrate the skills and ability he has shown, thus far, in the opening of the ’26 football season which landed him on the field and under center just when the team most needed him. Stewart’s continued development would really help to establish this program as a district contender in its classification.
