Storm Warning: Storm travels to Murray High coming off, maybe, its best performance of the season: @LasatersCoffee, @Ale8One, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @HopkinsCentral, @_CoachManning

Storm Warning

The Storm fired on all cylinders against Webster, can they do likewise at Murray?

The Storm traveled to Dixon, KY in search of its first District 1 win of the ’25 season. In what many have described as the team’s best overall performance on the year, the Storm left Webster County on the short end of a 38-0. Central unfurled a balanced offensive attack which would see them throw for 156-yards and three (3) TDs and pound the ground for another 230-yards and a rushing TD the “old fashioned” way. Kam Harrison at RB was a smashing success. Now come a trip to play an undefeated Murray High team which many believe to be the very best 3A team on our end of Kentucky. It presents a major opportunity, if we can seize it.

Morton’s Gap, KY: Sylas Gunn (’26) may have turned in his best pure performance as a member of the Storm’s varsity roster. Gunn was locked and loaded on all fronts. A healthy Gunn is a loaded and dangerous Gunn!

Gunn played healthy and operated in his three (3) phase capacity against Webster County. His team really needed to see that.

Gunn passed for 156-yards and three (3) TDs on four completions. Gunn ran the ball from scrimmage seven (7) times and gained 110-yards.

Gunn registered 12-tackles, three (3) of which were for loss. Gunn recovered a pair of fumbles. Suffice it to say Gunn was everywhere, all over the field.

Gunn’s play has further reinforced our position he is among the commonwealth’s best, all-around football players at any classification. When Gunn is fully healthy the team is formidable. Gunn is formidable healthy or not.

We called for Isac Earl (’26) to get more “targets” or opportunities and it appears somebody may have listened. Earl snagged three (3) TD receptions, had a scoop and score on defense, scored 24 of the team’s 38-points, forced a fumble, and picked a pass he returned some 69-yards.

Jude Mitchell (’26) had a strong game at PK. Mitchell converted two (2) of his four (4) PATs and has converted 10 PATs on the season.

Freshman, Dariyon Walker (’29) registered 8-tackles, Mattox Allen (’27) had a pair of tackles behind the line and Khristian Scott (’26) threw in a TFL. Issac McKnight (’27) had 10-tackles, two (2) TFLs, a FF and a FR. Sophomore Ronald Banks (’28) registered four (4) tackles, a TFL, a FF, and a FR for some of his best game play on the year.

Now, let's turn our attention to Murray High...

There is no easy way to say this…Murray High is 8-0, one of the best teams in the KHSAA’s 3A classification, a big-time title threat in 3A, and has some of the best talent anywhere in the Bluegrass. Melvin Cunningham is doing a fantastic job there and the Tigers have a better than puncher’s chance or entering the playoffs 10-0.

These guys beat Union County 44-7…44-7, let that resonate a second. The game was in Morganfield.

Wyatt Robbins (’26) has thrown for nearly 2,000-yards on the season, thus far, and has 23-TD passes against a pair of INTs. Robbins has rushed for over 400-yards and scored a pair of TDs rushing. Isaiah Martin (’26) is Robbins’s favorite target and has 12-TDs receiving on the year and leads the team in scoring (12-points a game).

Hank Fronza (’26, PK) is among the finest specialists in the commonwealth. Fronza has nearly 40-PATs and has converted three (3) of five (5) FGs on the season. Simon Rickman is closing in on 100-stops on the year, has three (3) QB-sacks, and a pair of fumble recoveries. Gage Chapman (’27) has 83-tackles, an INT, a pair of sacks, a forced fumble, and a pair of recoveries.

Murray has gotten very solid play from its Christian County transfer, Joshua Bridges (’26). Bridges has 33-receptions, seven (7) for TDs, 20-tackles, an INT, a FR, and a host of passes broken up from his corner slot.

Both of these teams WANT this win, but who NEEDS this win more? I hate to say this, and don’t say it lightly, but Murray is the more talented and deeper ball club. However, that being said, any team can beat the other and Murray does have a six-win team in Caldwell County set to visit it next weekend. Could we catch these Tigers napping?

You know the old Indian proverb about riding Tigers…the most dangers aspect is (always) the dismount. We can slip into Murray and do it, we just have to BELIEVE!

KPGFootball says: We like Murray High in this game and probably by 28-points but, if we catch the Tigers looking ahead; then, who knows?

Sylas Gunn, Isac Earl, and our senior class can win this game for us if we get out of their way!

Friday Night Fletch

Central is a better football team than its record would indicate. Murray High is just a dad-burn, good football team.

To be the type program we all are striving to be, we have to be able to win the games we should and sneak up on a few along the way. This is a game that, should we win, think of the statement it would make heading into the upcoming playoffs!

Fort Campbell over North Hopkins (’24) and Owensboro Catholic over Bowling Green High (to open this year) are the type games which have shown us any team can win, on any given night. That works in our favor for this upcoming game. This weekend will be the Storm’s time to get on a closing run and shock the commonwealth of Kentucky.

The Storm needs the fans to travel to Murray, Kentucky in droves. We need to be both loud and conspicuous.

Our team has to show up. The players have to show up and so do the fans! See you guys at the game.
