’27 TE/DE/LB looking to bounce back in his final stanza
And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
Ezekiel 47:12, The Holy Bible, KJV
Ezekiel Wiseman looks the part. Wiseman is 6’1,” weighs around 190-pounds, is a good enough athlete to double as a power forward on the basketball team, and carries a 3.4-GPA. When you consider his play was limited to two games in ’25, you have to wonder what would the Engineers have done had he been available to them all year long. One thing is for certain, it doesn’t take a prophet to forecast a healthy Wiseman will make a much larger difference in ’26.

Irving, KY: Estill County can be a challenging place to compete. Irving, Kentucky is a remote area in the eastern Appalachia region but is a charming town and produces some tough kids.
Hoover Niece was a legend as the head football coach of the Engineers for many years. His teams were tough, hard-nosed, and really competed. We wrote about Coach Niece in our Slow Motion Replay series last Sumer. Here is a link.
It has been proven the Engineers can win. It has been proven Estill County can compete for championships. First things first, we need our 6’1,” 190-pound TE/DE/LBs, named after Old Testament prophets, on the field and out of the medical tent.
We are going to make a prophecy right now. We believe Ezekiel Wiseman is going to have a huge, senior year.
Wiseman is listed as having played two (2) games in ’25, his junior season. If you look at his production over two (2) games, he caught two passes, he made 12-tackles, and he had three (3) TFLs.
Guys getting slipped out onto the field for some varsity PT from the JV squad don’t ring up numbers like those. That is why we believe Wiseman was injured in ’25, because it is obvious to us Wiseman is too good a player to not be on the field provided he is healthy enough to go.

Now Estill was 5-6 in ’25. The engineers have to contend with both Letcher County Central and Alan Short’s Bulldogs from Lawrence County to ascend to the peak of the district 8 mountain. Neither of those teams are “cake walks.”
Last season, Letcher was 6-5, 3-1 in the district, but lost to an 11-win Lawrence County team, at home, by 10 (57-47). Letcher dropped its first round game to Knox County by a single, solitary point (28-27) in round one of the KHSAA playoffs.
Lawrence County was 11-2 and lost the regional championship game to Bell County, 16-6, in Middlesboro. The Bulldogs took out one of our favorites, The Rock (Rockcastle County), by six (32-26) in round two.
Point is, there is some steep climbing to be done to win the eighth district in 3A. For the Engineers to do so, they need players as athletic and built like Wiseman on hand, ready for service.
Like we said, the Wiseman-types have to be on the field and not on the trainer’s table. This offseason can be critical to that particular cause.
Then again, what the heck do we know?
