Mark Peach let go at Anderson County

Mark Peach, former coach at Anderson County

In a move that has shocked the high school football fraternity in Kentucky, and has shocked the author of this article particularly, the school board at Anderson County has decided to terminate the employment of Mark Peach, its head football coach. This information needs to stay for the perusal of only the subscribers here as there hasn’t been a formal announcement but we have this on good (and inside) authority sufficient to publish by our publishing standards.

Peach took over a struggling program when his first team hit the field in 2005 for the Bearcats. Mark had been head coach at Campbellsville in 2003-2004 where he had turned in a 15-7 worksheet there.

Over the course of 15 seasons, the Bearcats won over 64% of its football games as Peach amassed a 114-63 record going to the State Title-game in 2011 and the semi-state in 2013. Peach was 10-1 in 2018 in the 5A classification before the 2019 realignment placed the Bearcats in one of 4A’s toughest districts with Lexington Catholic and Boyle County.

The 2019-season was a disaster for this accomplished coach, though only his 4th losing campaign in 15 attempts. His Bearcats came out of the gate 4-2 before ending the year with 5-straight losses beginning with a one point loss on the road to a Bourbon County team in the midst of a rebuild and under a first-year coach itself.

The road loss to the Colonels shocked both this publication and much of Kentucky. After the loss to Bourbon County, the wheels continued to come off the cart as the Bearcats were outed, round one, by state-finalist, Boyle County, 64-14.

We don’t know what is next for Anderson County and whether they have a coach in mind. What we do know is Peach is leaving behind a fairly well stocked roster which includes one of 2021’s very best in DE Darion Dearinger, a KPGFootball and AP All-State football player holding numerous FBS-level offers.

We will attempt to update this story as information becomes made available. We have our ears pretty close to the ground here.
