Gavin Copenhaver has CAL (Christian Academy-Louisville) hitting on all cylinders and sitting 4-0
We thought coming into the year that the 3A classification was a two-horse race. We knew Paducah Tilghman would be tough and CAL would be the other team in the classification with a ton back from off a roster which may have been the best team in 3A a year ago. Gavin Copenhaver is fully demonstrating he may be the most versatile and talented football player in all of Kentucky. Enjoy this look at a young man doing it on both sides of the football.

Migua Beef Jerky uses Enviro-Pac CHU-2000 equipment to cook its meat to USDA required levels for both moist or dry operation. Mingua Beef Jerky wants you to become one of its many satisfied customers by sampling its quality hand sliced, all natural beef jerky. We know you’ll love it and come back for more, again and again.
Ronnie Mingua began experimenting with making beef jerky back in the 1990s. He shared his efforts with neighbors and friends, soon realizing he had come up with something different and superior to all other beef jerkies on the market. From these humble beginnings, Mingua Beef Jerky got its start.
Today, the Mingua Beef Jerky Company still prides itself on using its old-fashioned, all-natural recipes which offer outstanding products to customers across the nation. The recipes are a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
Our recipes and our quality ingredients, hand-cut from solid pieces of beef, are never chopped or formed like other brands, making our products superior and one of a kind. That would make our products similar to this week’s Protein Packed Performer, Class of ’23, RB/MLB, Gavin Copenhaver from Louisville, Kentucky’s Christian Academy, wouldn’t it?
Hombre is a term that is mostly used in North America to denote a tough, strong or brutish man. Hombre is a Spanish word that means man. Hombre is a borrowed or loaned word from Spanish, and is derived from the Latin word hominem which means man.
So when we called Copenhaver an “hombre,” we chose that word very judiciously and we knew exactly what we were referencing. Copenhaver is a man and, if you are inclined to doubt that fact, just ask any member of the four rosters which have had to face him, to date, here during the first part of the ’22 Kentucky High School football season.
Copenhaver is a 6’0,” 210-pound RB/LB who scored two TDs rushing, two TDs receiving, while leading his team in offensive scoring, among other key statistical categories, in the team’s big win over Lexington Christian.
Some of the “other categories” in which Copenhaver led his team were tackles (15) and TFLs (tackles for loss, 3). No wonder CAL beat one of Kentucky’s finest teams, at any competitive level, Lexington Christian Academy, last Friday night, by the score of 49-14.
The Centurions are now 4-0 approaching the mid-season. The Centurions are also staring down the barrel of a No. 1 ranking, now that the AP will be both regularly and weekly reporting its “top 10” from henceforth forward.
On the year, Copenhaver has carried it 28-times for 184-yards and 4-TDs while grabbing 7-aerials for 128-yards receiving with 3-receiving TDs. On Defense, Copenhaver has 34-tackles, 9-TFLs, 2-QB sacks, and a FF.
What is even more impressive to Mingua Beef Jerky and us is Copenhaver’s sporting a 3.5 GPA. Unlike a lot of academics, it doesn’t mean he lacks athletic ability. After all, the kid runs the 40-yard dash in 4.62-seconds. That is “doing it,” both on and off the football field.
Mingua Beef Jerky and we decided this talented and accomplished ’24 RB/LB could use a bolt of protein. The company volunteered to send him some straight away.
Join us next week as we honor another worthy player. Until then, pop some Mingua Beef Jerky in your mouth and savor the quality and flavor which sets it apart from all the competition. Remember, our product is superior and one of a kind; just like Christian Academy-Louisville’s Gavin Copenhaver.
This is HB Lyon reporting for Kentucky Prep Gridiron reminding you that WE’RE JUST CALLING IT LIKE WE SEE IT and don’t forget to SAVOR THE FLAVOR!
