’28 ATH looks poised to burst onto the 5A scene
If you’re looking for us to “Wow” you with some statistical outlay concerning the play of Christopher Dezern from Pulaski County, you may leave this feature somewhat disappointed. You see, Dezern plays for Pulaski County. Pulaski County isn’t just a 5A football team. Pulaski County is a team which won it all in 5A in 2014 and was runners-up in 2013, ’15, and ’16. In other words, the Maroons have been there, done that. However, Dezern did enough for us to evaluate that he is a future star for the Maroons, going forward, so we decided to send him a box of world-famous all-beef jerky products and a sweet T-shirt to go along with this feature. Let’s see if this doesn’t get the young man kicked off down the road to stardom.

Today, the Mingua Beef Jerky Company still prides itself on using its old-fashioned, all-natural recipes which offer outstanding products to customers across the nation. The recipes are a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
Our recipes and our quality ingredients, hand-cut from solid pieces of beef, are never chopped or formed like other brands, making our products superior and one of a kind. Somerset, KY: This award has become among the more coveted and cherished weekly awards in the KHSAA, especially among “football people.” Of course, the winner of this award gets shipped to them a hulking box filled with world famous, all-beef jerky, in the most popular flavors, with a sweet T-shirt; so, what’s not to like.
We have had all-staters win this award. We have had Mr. Football winners take home the prize. We have given Mingua’s prize package to Gatorade Kentucky Players of the Year.
Point is, Friday Night Heroes are the vast recipients of this distinction. However, we at KPGFootball, know which players are destined to become stars. We usually out these guys way before anyone else knows of their prowess.
We feel this is one of those occasions. You see, we are wagering Christopher Dezern from Pulaski County is on his way to the champion’s paddock.
There are several reasons we feel this way. For starters, Dezern played in five (5) varsity games a year ago as a freshman.
Dezern played in five varsity games as a freshman at 5A Pulaski County
KHSAA Statistical Website
We know there are freshmen who played more. We know there are freshmen who accumulated more awe-inspiring statistics. How many of those guys were on one of 5A’s better rosters? How many of those guys were playing for a program which has won a 5A title and played for three others?
You get our point.
Dezern is 5’11,” 145 pounds with plenty of heightening to do on his frame and thickening yet to occur. In spite of his slight build, Dezern still found the field in five (5) of the team’s 13-varsity football games (Maroons were 8-5 in ’24) not to mention his stellar play on the JV.
There are characteristics about Dezern we feel destines him for stardom. One such characteristic is his 3.8 GPA. Football really isn’t a game for dummies no matter what you’ve heard.
Dezern clips off 40-yards in 4.9-seconds. There aren’t too many around who would shoot you straight here, but there is nothing wrong with a freshman skill clicking off 40’s in 4.9.
That is kind of fast. That will only get faster as he continues to weight train, condition, and develop physically.
Coach Burns has his guys headed in a positive direction

Coach Travis Burns has his guys headed in a positive direction. The team was young and unproven in ’24 and still won eight (8) games and made the regional championship round, losing to Highlands in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

Having young athletes around, like Christopher Dezern, will make the picture considerably more rosy as Dezern enters his sophomore season. Being at the reigns of a program like Pulaski County isn’t a bad place from which to start either.
Join us next week as we return to honor another weekly prize winner. Until then, pop some Mingua Beef Jerky in your mouth and savor the quality and flavor which sets it apart from the competition. Remember, our product is superior and one of a kind; just like Pulaski County High’s Christopher Dezern.
This is Friday Night Fletch reporting for Kentucky Prep Gridiron and reminding you to PLAY THROUGH THE WHISTLE. Don’t forget to SAVOR THE FLAVOR!
