’26 QB does something last Friday he hasn’t done all season…win!
Brady Johnson is the son of a coach and a QB who has really flourished in spite of his team’s struggles in ’24. Johnson has been fabulous as a dual-threat QB. Johnson, 6’1,” 175-pounds, has completed 62.5% of his passing attempts (100 for 160), for 1,792-yards, and 12-TDs through the air. Johnson has also led the ground game in yards (407) in only 58-attempts (over seven-yards per carry) with nine (9) rushing TDs. Did we mention the Wildcats are 1-6? Sometimes a team just needs that first “W” to get it going. We like Shelby Valley to win a second game on the road at Betsy Lane tonight!

Big Ass Fans is so much more than just a gigantic fan. It is gigantic quality, gigantic performance, and a gigantic commitment to reliability and innovation. Its size is far from the only selling point about our product. Our product is a Kentucky Comfort Creator…and, these days, isn’t that exactly what Kentucky needs?
Pikeville, KY: Brady Johnson is among the better kept secrets in the Appalachia Mountains. Of course, it is right impossible to keep any secret from the agents and staff at Kentucky Prep Gridiron.
We are out there, always looking, always searching. We’re ubiquitous.
Now Brady Johnson is 6’1,” and weighs 175-pounds. He is a junior playing for a 2A, D8 program experiencing a rebuild.
The Wildcats were 0-6 going into the Pike County Central game. Pike County Central had won three games and didn’t figure to struggle against a Wildcat bunch invading the Hawks Nest searching for its first win. Well, the Hawks were wrong.
Young teams like Shelby Valley take some time to jell. Not to mention the fact Shelby Valley played 4A powers like Letcher County and Perry County Central together with 3A traditional tough-outs, Lawrence County and E-Town, the latter of which Shelby Valley lost to by a slight five (5) points, 49-44.
Not all 1-6 records are similarly constituted.
Now against a three-win Pike County Central, Johnson was 16 for 22 for 228-yards and a TD. Johnson rushed for 59-yards on 6-carries with a TD on the ground. Each score was pivotal as the final score was 14-12, Shelby Valley. Lincoln Taylor’s two-points (No. 74, ’26) ended up the difference.
Shelby Valley travels to Stanville, Kentucky to take on the Bobcats from Betsy Lane. Betsy Lane is 6-1 with a narrow loss to an undefeated Prestobsburg the difference between it and perfection on the season.
The Durden Ratings Index (DRI) has assigned a score of 51.75 to Shelby Valley while Betsy Lane posts a 49.2. That would suggest Shelby Valley would be favored to win.
However, our algorithm back at the office has Betsy Lane, on a neutral field, giving the visiting Wildcats from Pikeville, Kentucky 11-points. The game will be played at Betsy Lane which is good for another 3-points.
We are going with our algorithm simply because of the money we expended developing it. We are taking Betsy Lane in the matchup and predicting the Bobcats win by 14-points at home. However, don’t be surprised if Shelby Valley makes it two in a row as the DRI scores for the two teams gives us great pause in making the prediction we made. Man, I love high school football!
Join us next Friday when we feature another worthy KHSAA football player. Until then, let’s keep it comfortable out there Kentucky; and should you need any help with that; contact our friends at Big Ass Fans!
