’28 versatile line of scrimmage asset productive in the community and classroom
It isn’t everyday a two way lineman who can also deep snap sports a 3.8-GPA and gets elected class president. I believe if you were to inquire around the KHSAA to active coaches you would find the number to be quite small in comparison to the total number of athletes who yearly compete in varsity football across the commonwealth. That is what makes an Isaac Begley so darned special. Kids like Begley should be celebrated. That is what we do. Enjoy this look at a skilled athlete, dynamite citizen, and extremely proficient student who is entering his junior campaign playing for one of 1A’s more storied and successful programs in the Appalachias.

Hazard, KY: His name is William Isaac Begley but he prefers to go by Isaac. Begley plays basketball and baseball, in addition to football; something Begley has done since he was five (5) years old.
We talk about linemen having mobility, sink, feet, and powerful hand placement (thumbs down the field). It takes considerable feet and movement to play down in the post in basketball. It takes excellent hands to thrive on a baseball diamond.
It takes another thing to thrive in baseball. Kids who can remain in the batter’s box while another kid is throwing a fastball at him, between 80-90 MPH, takes a measure of courage, an exhibition of eye-hand coordination.
Begley has the skills, courage, athleticism, and smarts to play center, defensive line, and Long-Snapper. Those skills manifest in his other sporting exploits and evidence both in the hallways at Hazard High, in the classroom, and on the gridiron.

Friday Night Fletch
Begley first entered the lineup his freshman year at RT. Playing RT at 6’1,” 235-pounds isn’t an easy task, an easy chore. Begley enters his junior season a fixture at center on offense, along the defensive front with his hand in the dirt, and as a Long-Snapper, something he is well suited to pursue next level.
Begley describes playing college football as a dream. His 3.8-GPA and being his school’s class President insures there will be academic money to go along with whatever funds the football program wishes to invest. In other words, there are lots of wats to skin a cat (so to speak) and this kid has the skinning tools.
As for his next-level prospects, it gets difficult to exactly pinpoint. Begley is framed out well for LS at any level from junior college to NCAA, FBS, Division I. At 6’1,” should he had 30 (thirty) or so pounds the right way, you are looking at a guy who could play interiorly along a defensive front or at center for a majority of in-Commonwealth, college programs.
With his GPA and exhibited leadership qualities, Begley seems well suited for a service academy, an Ivy-League or Near Ivy-League type situation. Hey, this guy should suit for the moon, not just settle where some recruiting coordinator tries to lure him.
Football prospects tend to overlook grades and leadership qualities like those possessed by Begley, together with his superior athletic and varied skills, opens a world of doors for his ilk.
His type doesn’t come around too often. Ask any coach…
