Will Issac Sowells Jr. (feature photo: Chad Smith) “Spike” the 6th Grade Team Kentucky Future Stars’ fortunes this summer? We sure think so…

We have sources spanning the entire commonwealth of Kentucky and on into contiguous areas perpetually reporting back to us about talent across Kentucky. Thank the good Lord as until these kids reach the age to garner local paper coverage (assuming they play a position the local sports writers will cover) they are practically ghosts.

If you don’t believe it tell us who is the best 6th-grade football player in your town and “Google” him to see if anything appears. Nothing, right?

So when the Louisville combine for Team Kentucky Future stars convened, though this author couldn’t personally be there owing to a prior engagement, readers should have realized we would have the event covered. It is the largest and most populated area in the commonwealth which routinely produces the highest quality athletes. Of course we were there whether or not you recognized us; we’re everywhere.

Our source at the combine couldn’t rave enough about sixth-grader, and local product (will attend Barrett Traditional MS) Isaac Sowells, Jr. We have since learned his nickname is “Spike.”

To refresh your recollection, we were initially told about ole Spike…Sowells showcased a high motor, was technically sound, and demonstrated a perpetual readiness to compete and even lead his position group. Sowells showed the versatility to make the team either at OL or DL.

If you are wondering how Spike got so good, so early…it might be genetic. Isaac’s dad (also named Isaac and 6-4 inches tall) played collegiately at the University of Indiana as an OG, played in 27 football games in the Big-10, and was drafted with the 112th overall pick (4th round) by the Cleveland Browns in the 2006 draft.

Now, little Spike is 5-4 inches tall, at present, and already weighs 180-pounds though only in the 6th-grade. The kid is mobile enough that he intends on playing some MLB when he gets to Barrett Traditional this coming Fall. How big does Spike figure to grow? Well, he wears a size-13 shoe already.

As for where Isaac Sowells, Jr. figures to be deployed in June at Fortera Stadium? Well, KPGFootball projects Spike will be deployed along the defensive front for Team Kentucky. Sowells is just too athletic, powerful, explosive, and fast to not be used on the defensive front.

Sowells will spike the athleticism of the D-line. Sowells will spike the athleticism of the team’s roster. Sowells will spike any ball carriers coming his way. We feel this to be a safe bet, should anyone be curious.

This is F.W. Long (#Brotherhood) reporting for KPGFootball reminding you to PLAY THROUGH THE WHISTLE!
